Pens Looking For 3rd Straight Win

The venue for tonight's game: The Norfolk Scope Arena. It has been nicknamed "Mini Madison Square Garden" because of its similarities to the home of the NHL's New York Rangers.

Coming off a two-win weekend, including a 1-0 shutout of the Hershey Bears and a 2-1 nail biter over the Adirondack Phantoms, the Penguins are in Norfolk, Virginia tonight to take on the Admirals, searching for their third straight win,

Some news and notes to get you caught up for tonight's game:

• F Tom Kuhnhackl had season ending surgery to repair a separated shoulder, which Kuhnhackl himself posted on Facebook as the third time he's separated that shoulder. Ouch!

• F Benn Ferriero practiced yesterday but is still questionable for tonight's game, which is why the Penguins announced this morning that F Adam Payerl has re-joined the team after a successful weekend in Wheeling. The move gives the Penguins 13 healthy forwards, excluding Kuhnhackl and Ferriero and including Steve MacIntyre, Paul Crowder and Chris Barton.

• With only six healthy defensemen currently on the WBS roster, I thought today would be the day Carl Sneep would re-join the Pens as well. But a source close to the situation has told me that Sneep won't make it to Norfolk for tonight's game but is in Wilkes-Barre and will most likely join the team when they return home after the game.

• Expect the defense pairings to remain the same tonight:

Brian Dumoulin - Dylan Reese

Joey Mormina - Alex Grant 

Joe Morrow - Philip Samuelsson 

• It'll be interesting to see who gets the start in net tonight. Jeff Zatkoff has been the team's number one goaltender without a shred of doubt up until this past week. Backup Brad Thiessen has come in and won three of his last four starts, including two shutouts and back-to-back wins the last two games the Penguins played.
