Tuesday Update: Penguins Back to Where They Were

It's time for the WBS Penguins to dig deep. Let's tie up this series at 2 and finish it at home!

The WBS Penguins loss makes tomorrow night's Game 4 similar to Saturday night's Game 2. The Penguins trail their best of seven series by one game again against the Checkers and need to respond to the 2-1 loss. With a full lineup and a mentality to be physical and smart with the puck like Game 2, the Penguins can and will get back in this series.

I still stick by my prediction at the beginning of the series (Pens in 6) and knew this was going to be a hard fought battle.It continues tomorrow night in the Time Warner Cable Arena and the Penguins need to bring that effort into every shift. The Penguins will look to get back to that kind of style that has given them success the entire second half of the season: Great defense & goaltending, with timely goals and physical effort.



Looking back at the 2010-2011 season the reason why the Penguins didn't lose many games was their ability to bounce back after a loss. Since October, the team has only lost back-to-back games four times. Let's look at the last two occurrences to show how they responded.

In their first round playoff series with Norfolk, after losing the first two games of the series they bounced back to win four straight and advance to the East Division Finals.

In the midst of a four games in five nights stretch in late March, the Penguins lost back-to-back games to Binghamton (3/25) and Adriondack (3/26). After traveling from Wilkes-Barre to Binghamton to Adirondack, the final stop was Hershey (3/27). The team knew they needed to dig deep against the division rival Bears.

Not only did they win the game in overtime, they clinched the East Division title and went on a tear to end the regular season. The Penguins won six straight games and finished the last nine games of the season with eight wins.

This team has shown the ability to bounce back from adversity and there's no reason to believe that the Penguins can't beat the Checkers three more times, if they get to their game.
