Power Plays "Grant" Penguins 6-2 Win

Saturday, January 21, 2012
After struggling on the man advantage most of the season, the Penguins put up five power play goals with the help from the game's first star Alex Grant (2G-3A) in route to a 6-2 landslide over the Syracuse Crunch tonight.

The win gives the Penguins five in a row, including two straight at home. The Penguins will take an impressive seven game road winning streak up to Syracuse for a rematch tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.

It was Brad Thiessen bobble head night, but the sold out Mohegan Sun Arena crowd watched Scott Munroe pick up his ninth win of the season, stopping 21 of the 23 shots he faced.  The only lineup change from last night was Philip Samuelsson replaced Peter Merth (healthy scratch) on the blue line.

Alex Grant had by far the best game of his pro career tonight. He got the Penguins started with a power play rocket blast 11:46 into the first period.

After the Crunch would take a 2-1 lead in the middle frame, Grant assisted on two second period power play goals from Bryan Lerg and Ben Street. Grant also got an assist on Geoff Walker's power play goal in the third, before scoring his second power play goal of the night to give the Penguins a commanding 5-2 lead.

Ben Street now has points in his each of his last five games (4G-4A). Bryan Lerg has goals in four straight games.

A five point night for Grant, with all five points coming on the power play. The Penguins power play would finish 5 for 12 on the night, while going a perfect 4 for 4 on the penalty kill.

Zach Sill would make it a dozen, with the Pens' first even strength goal of the night with 3:18 left in the game.

Penguins win 6-2!
