Tuesday's AHL Penguins Practice Update 10/7

Players listen to instruction from head coach John Hynes before a drill at Tuesday's practice.
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins made a few cuts before today's practice, trimming the roster by six:
  • They loaned forward Carter Rowney and defenseman Clark Seymour to their ECHL affiliate in Wheeling.
  • Forwards Patrick McGrath and Tyler Murovich and defensemen Kevin Ryan and Jonathan Narbonne were released from their professional tryouts. Of those, McGrath will head to Wheeling.
What that leaves the AHL Penguins with is 25 guys - three goaltenders, seven defensemen and 15 forwards.

Goalies (3) - Jeff Zatkoff, Matt Murray and Eric Hartzell

Defensemen (7) - Brian Dumoulin, Philip Samuelsson, Reid McNeill, Harrison Ruopp, Barry Goers, Nick D'Agostino and Alex Boak

Forwards (15) - Tom Kostopoulos, Nick Drazenovic, Conor Sheary, Anton Zlobin, Jayson Megna, Josh Archibald, Dominik Uher, Adam Payerl, Tom Kuhnhackl, Pierre-Luc Leblond, Bobby Farnham, Bryan Rust, Scott Wilson, Matia Marcantuoni, Jean-Sebastien Dea

The Penguins have a full week of practice ahead of themselves before opening the season this Saturday at home against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Today, the focus at the Toyota SportsPlex was 4-on-4 play as the team worked on that for most of the first half of practice. They also worked on another trouble area in the second half of the practice - face-offs.

Penguins development coach Mark Recchi was on the ice with the AHL Penguins today. He seemed to be having a lot of fun and enjoying his new role.

Jeff Zatkoff practiced in Wilkes-Barre today after clearing waivers and being re-assigned to the AHL Penguins over the weekend. Matt Murray and Eric Hartzell shared the other net at practice.

There weren't any formal line rushes, but here's who was working with who in the drills today.
