Phantoms' AHL Roster Nearly Complete

Written by: Tony Androckitis - Twitter/Facebook

The Philadelphia Flyers didn't wait out the weekend to announce they have re-signed their last three restricted free agents - goaltenders Alex Lyon and Anthony Stolarz and forward Cole Bardreau.

Both Lyon and Stolarz received one-year contracts, while Bardreau was extended for two years.

All three are expected to be key contributors on the Flyers' AHL affiliate in Lehigh Valley this fall.

Lyon, 24, put together a remarkable first season at the pro level with the Phantoms last season - finishing the 2016-17 season with 27 wins and four shutouts. His 27 wins led all rookie goaltenders in the AHL.

Unfortunately for Lyon, a knee injury in Game 2 of the Atlantic Division Semifinals ended his season. He'll be looking to build on his rookie accolades in another 1A-1B situation with Stolarz.

Stolarz. 23, proved able in seven NHL appearances with the Flyers this past season - picking up his first NHL start, first NHL win and first NHL shutout all in 2016-17.

Unfortunately for Stolarz, he seemed to lose confidence in his game upon his return to the AHL last spring and a freak twisted knee caused a knee injury serious enough that it required season-ending surgery in the final weeks of the Phantoms' regular season.

Bardreau, who will celebrate his 24th birthday next Saturday, was finally able to stay healthy and play consistent two-way hockey - killing penalties and being a hard-working physical role player for Lehigh Valley last season.

With these latest signings, here's what the projected Lehigh Valley Phantoms roster looks like for the 2017-18 season:
Forwards (15): Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Cole Bardreau, Greg Carey, Chris Conner (AHL - 2 years), Radel Fazleev, Tyrell Goulbourne, Derek Hulak (AHL), Corban Knight, Taylor Leier, Danick Martel, Colin McDonald, Steven Swavely (AHL), Phil Varone, Mikhail Vorobyev and Matt Willows (AHL)
Defensemen (8): Mark Alt, T.J. Brennan, Mark Friedman, Frank Hora (AHL), Phil Myers, Will O'Neill, Travis Sanheim and Reece Willcox
Goaltenders (3): Alex Lyon, John Muse (AHL) and Anthony Stolarz
