| Will the Penguins retain Potter for 2011-12? |

Corey Potter led the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins during this most recent year's playoff run in both assists (7) and points (9). He has played in more than 300 AHL games in his career, including 30 Calder Cup playoff games. Would retaining Potter for another year be a good move by the Penguins organization?
The answer is undeniably yes. Potter had a career high 37 points in 2010-11, while also being reliable in his own zone at a +25 rate over the course of the regular season. The prospect pool might be rich on defense, but the organization, and particularly the AHL Penguins, could use a guy like Potter to help out the younger prospects.
He not only brings experience and leadership, but leads by example on the ice. I can definitely see another short term, 1-2 year deal, in the cards for Potter with a similar two-way, near league minimum NHL cap hit. The only real question, since Potter is a UFA, is whether or not the Penguins can offer him enough incentive to keep him in the organization.
Corey Potter would be a solid depth signing for an organization that already has seven NHL defensemen and a few bright prospects in Simon Despres, Robert Bortuzzo, Brian Strait and Carl Sneep. We'll have to wait and see if the organization agrees with this synopsis.

Strong defenceman that I look forward to seeing back. Of the ones in WBS that need to be re-signed (or not) he is the D that I want to see return. I see potential here, on both sides of the ice.
