Monday's Lunch Links

Not much happened over the weekend. But here's a few things to read about on a slow work day at the office:

On Friday, the Hershey Bears announced their preseason schedule, which is one of the two road preseason opponents the WBS Penguins will play. We announced this on the blog's Twitter feed and the date for that road game is Saturday, October 1st at 7:05 p.m. That leaves one more road game left to be released and we'll have that for you as soon as it is.

The AHL is about to release their schedule for the 2011-12 season. That will occur later this week according to this tweet from the league's feed:
The answer: Later this week. The question: You know the question. #AHL #schedule #IsItOctoberYet
There was a lot of buzz about Sidney Crosby and his status for the 2011-12 season over the weekend.  There obviously is a ton of mixed rumors, speculation and so forth. But here's a good read over at our good friends Pensburgh that has all the latest information regarding Crosby.

And last but certainly not least:

There was a lot of rumbling on the Twitter side about the prospect of the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins playing the Adirondack Phantoms in an AHL outdoor game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on January 6th.

Nothing official yet, but the Phantoms did have January 6th on their released home dates back in July. With the NHL's Winter Classic game scheduled at Citizens Bank Park for January 2nd, is it really that farfetched that the AHL would play an outdoor game there too?

It seems that maybe the Phantoms knew they wanted the outdoor game on that date and got it approved by the league early. Could the WBS Penguins be their opponent? Stay tuned for details if/when it becomes official.
