Robert Bortuzzo will play a bigger role in another strong defensive core in 2011-12.
I know it has been awhile since the last update but there hasn't been anything to update on. August seems to be dragging and hockey fans are anxious for September and the Black & Gold game on the 19th. Here's a list of some Penguins related happenings of the past couple of days you may be interested in.

Hershey Bears play-by-play announcer John Walton has been named the Washington Capitals play-by-play guy. According to this article, his new job title will be the director of radio broadcasting. Congratulations to John Walton. I wish him the best in his new ventures in the NHL.

According to hockey agent Darryl Wolski on Twitter, the Wheeling Nailers have agreed to terms with Cody Chupp (former Ferris State and Texas Stars) and a tryout with Wilkes - Barre AHL for 2011-12.

Chupp, 26, played 58 games in the AHL last season with the Texas Stars, registering 14 points (5G, 9A) with a -9 and 21 PIM. Looks like an ECHL signing and forward depth for WBS.

If you missed this last week, the Pittsburgh Penguins signed their 2011 first-round draft pick, defenseman Joseph Morrow, to a three-year entry-level contract. Here's the team's release on the signing.

Morrow, 18, was selected 23rd overall by the Penguins at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in June and attended the Penguins’ annual prospect development camp at CONSOL Energy Center in July. He will be heading back to the WHL's Portland Winterhawks in 2011-12 and won't be eligible for AHL duty until the following season.

This is sort of old news, but I have been following this developing story lately. Former WBS Penguins forward Aaron Boogaard has been charged for allegedly handling and getting rid of the painkillers that killed his brother Derek back in May.

I'm still working on a position-by-position preview of the team for the upcoming season but have decided to wait a bit in case of any more roster additions occur. The next big news should be the announcing of the team's 76 game schedule sometime next week. Stay tuned.

Highland Park Hockey will be the best place to keep up to date with the happenings of the  AHL's Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins. We will have game previews, recaps and open threads for each game along with all the breaking news, highlights, stats, interviews from players & coaches and much more.
