Penguins End Preseason With 3-1 Win

Sunday, October 2, 2011
The Penguins fired 34 shots at Jason Bacashihua tonight.
The fans at Mohegan Sun Arena got to see some of the guys who will lead the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins as they prepare for the team's 13th season this upcoming Saturday. The top line featured Eric Tangradi, Ryan Craig and Colin McDonald. Tangradi scored a power play goal and McDonald notched two assists. Good stuff from that line.

The Penguins dominated most of the play tonight. They returned the favor after dropping a 3-1 to Adirondack on Wednesday with a 3-1 win of their own tonight.

Quick insights on tonight's game and the shaping/trimming of rosters:
  • Cody Chupp, Paul Thompson and Eric Tangradi were the goal scorers tonight. I really thought Brandon DeFazio and Brian Gibbons played well tonight too.
  • Zach Sill didn't play tonight. Penguins announcer Tom Grace said Sill's eye was swollen. He should be ready to go in 6 days when the Penguins take on the Hershey Bears to start the season.
  • Still haven't heard a solid update on Keven Veilleux's status. Last heard his knee was too swollen to get tests done. I'll be at WBS Penguins practice all week and will break the news on any updates I hear.
  • Pittsburgh's preseason also concluded tonight. There were rumblings that roster cuts could be made tonight, but they must be done by Wednesday. I'm sure once Pittsburgh makes their cuts that the AHL Penguins will follow soon after. Again, since I'll be at practice tomorrow, I will let everyone know if any guys who were at WBS camp last week are missing tomorrow morning at the Coal Street Rink. I'll have live practice updates on the blog's Twitter feed @H_P_Hockey.
