Penguins Shutout at Home Part 2

Saturday, March 24, 2012

There's multiple reactions to the WBS Penguins games the last two nights:
  • The Penguins can't score goals. They haven't since Geoff Walker scored in the third period of the 3/18 game against Binghamton. It's up to 127:32!
  • The Penguins have run into some good goaltending.  Michael Leighton is two years removed from the Stanley Cup Finals with the NHL Flyers and Eddie Pasquale has four shutouts on the season.
  • The Penguins have played well at times and have had their chances to score but a combination of untimely turnovers and bad puck luck have haunted them.
I personally think it's a little bit of each after watching tonight's 2-0 loss to the St. John's IceCaps. You can't blame Scott Munroe this weekend, who has stopped 39 of 42 shots and has been tagged with both losses. I guess it's better to get the bad games out of the system now before mid April, but the last two games have certainly been a little frustrating and discouraging to the fans.

The Pens conclude the three game weekend home stand with a 3 p.m. game tomorrow against the Springfield Falcons.
