Thiessen's Back - Pens Win 1-0

Friday, January 11, 2013

The Penguins turned the tables on the Bears tonight, finally beating their rival in front of the home crowd. Should give them confidence against the Bears heading into the AHL Outdoor Game between these two teams next weekend.

The lead of the story tonight has to be that of goaltender Brad Thiessen, who picked up his second win in his last three starts. Both wins are shutouts. Tonight's 23 save shutout was impressive, especially in the third period with the Penguins shorthanded twice. Is it safe to say the Thiessen of old is back? Is it enough to over take Jeff Zatkoff for the starting role?

The Penguins lone goal came in the first period while the Penguins were on the power play. Dylan Reese sent a pass across to Brian Dumoulin, who fed a puck to the half wall to Beau Bennett. Bennett fired a pass back to Dumoulin and his point blast eluded Dany Sabourin for the 1-0 lead.

The big news of the night is that Eric Tangradi and Simon Despres were scratched tonight and have been reported as being in Pittsburgh awaiting training camp. Who will join them? Who will replace those lost to the NHL? Stay tuned to our Twitter feed for all the latest. Might have an exclusive blog post later tonight on the organization's player movement.
