Wednesday's WBS Practice UPDATE
Wednesday, January 2, 2013After a lengthy team meeting, the Penguins came out onto the ice at Coal Street and got right to work with down-and-back sprints. Lots of sprints. They did a few drills and ended the practice with 30-45 minutes of laps, sprints and other skating drills. It's safe to say coach Hynes put them through hell on the ice today.
This shouldn't be surprising as the team has won just one game in their last 11 contests.
Everyone practiced today except for Tom Kuhnhackl (shoulder), who is still recovering from an upper body injury. He walked out midway through the practice and had a quick chat with trainer Patrick Steidle. He looked alright to me, which makes me think he will begin skating sometime this week.
Keven Veilleux participated in full today and at times you could tell he was really feeling it. Not sure about his status for this weekends' games but I can guarantee the process is still to ease him back into action.
I jotted down some lines during the few minutes the team wasn't doing laps. Here's what they looked like:
Holzapfel - Smith - Megna
Tangradi - Peters - Dupuis
Gibbons - Sill - Thompson
Farnham - Ferriero - Uher
MacIntyre - Veilleux
Strait - Bortuzzo
Reese - Dumoulin
Mormina - Despres
Morrow - Samuelsson
Grant
Benn Ferriero is clearly in the doghouse right now. He was a healthy scratch on Monday after having a meeting with the coaches according to the Pens pre-game radio report. Another veteran off-season acquisition, Dylan Reese, has sat out the last two games as a healthy scratch as well. Coach Hynes is holding everyone accountable, including veteran players like Ferriero and Reese.
Check back tomorrow afternoon for another practice update.
