Eight Is NOT So Great - Pens Fall 2-1

Wednesday, February 27, 2013
The Penguins let a 1-0 slip away and fall 2-1 tonight. You have to go back to February 26th, 2011 for the last time the Penguins defeated the Norfolk Admirals at home. That's eight straight wins for the Admirals at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.

Tom Kostopolous scored his second goal in as many games while the Penguins were on the power play 7:33 into the 2nd period. Riley Holzapfel fed Chad Kolarik for a shot form the point. Frederick Andersen made the initial save, but Kostopolous was in perfect position for the rebound and tapped in to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.

With Joe Morrow in the box for high sticking, Brandon McMillan tied the game with his 5th of the season. The Admirals power play goal tied things at one with less than a minute to play in the middle frame.

In the third, Jeff Zatkoff came out of his net to make a play and got tangled with a Penguins defenseman who was trying to play the puck. The result was a bad angle shot and goal by Josh Brittain, who caught Zatkoff out of position at the side of the WBS net.

The Penguins practice at Mohegan Sun Arena tomorrow before hosting their biggest rival in the Hershey Bears Friday night.

ROSTER NOTES

Jeff Zatkoff got the start in net. The Penguins had been alternating starts for the goaltenders the past few weeks. With that said, expect Brad Thiessen back in net Friday.

Penguins beat writer Jonathan Bombulie noted the return of injured defenseman Alex Grant (upper body) and forward Chris Collins (lower body) in yesterday's practice. Neither took the warmup skate tonight and they were both scratched. They could return to the lineup this weekend as head coach John Hynes said they could return as early as tonight.

Only lineup change from Sunday was Philip Samuelsson back in for Reid McNeill.

Lines

Kolarik - Smith - Holzapfel
Gibbons - Megna - Kostopolous
Payerl - Peters - Uher
