Thiessen Shuts The Door, Pens Win 3-0

Another strong performance by Brad Thiessen and the Penguins, who win their eighth game in the last nine with a 3-0 victory over the Phantoms. They look to complete the weekend sweep tomorrrow afternoon in Hershey.

Warren Peters deflected a Joe Morrow point shot halfway through the first period to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead, after the Penguins had killed off three minor penalties in the first eight minutes. Brian Gibbons also added an assist.

With less than a minute to go in the 2nd period, the Pens extended their lead to 2-0 after a weird bounce off the back glass saw the puck drop down in front of Scott Munroe's crease. Luckily Alex Grant was in the right place at the right time and tapped it home.

Things got physical in the third. Oliver Lauridsen hit a very vulnerable Adam Payerl hard into the boards as Payerl was on his knees sliding along the ice. Zach Sill took exception, dropping the gloves and cutting open Lauridsen with a few heavy punches.

Tom Kostopoulos continues to do the little things that often go unnoticed. His cross ice pass to Peters for his second goal of the evening was Kostopoulos' third assist in his 4th game with the Penguins. Philip Samuelsson got on the scoresheet with the secondary assist.

No lineup changes tonight for the Penguins other than Thiessen in net for Jeff Zatkoff. It will be interesting who gets the start tomorrow at 2 pm. I'm leaning toward Zatkoff mainly because of the lack of time between tonight's game and tomorrow afternoon's game.
