Pens "Force" OT, Win in Shootout

Sunday, March 10, 2013
Down 3-0 late in the 2nd period and at the tail end of a three-in-three, some might have thought the Penguins were going to pack it in and leave Manchester with nothing to show for it. Not tonight.

"These are the wins that build championship teams," said Chad Kolarik after the game. "We just got to get the momentum off this and keep going."
Riley Holzapfel fires a shot from atop the faceoff circle and the puck deflects in on Kolarik's glove to get the Penguins on the board.

Just 28 seconds later, Bobby Farnham throws one at the crease and through a tangle of bodies, the puck slips past Martin Jones to draw the Penguins within one. Collins was originally credited with the goal. Then Sill received credit. Now it's Farnham's goal. That goes to show just how crowded it was in Manchester's crease.

Andy Andreoff put the Pens back in a two goal whole early in the third, but the Penguins would not go silently into the night down 4-2 at that point.

Zach Sill jumps on a Monarchs turnover and follows his shot and scores on the rebound, putting the game back within one.  Then Chad Kolarik uses his great vision on the ice to spot Dylan Reese cutting to the net and Reese goes top shelf on Jones to tie it at 4 a few minutes later.

Overtime was hectic but neither team could find a goal so it was on to the shootout.

Trevor Smith and Riley Holzapfel score back to back in rounds three and four, respectively, and Jeff Zatkoff stops all four Monarchs shooters to compete the comeback and give the Penguins the two points.

"It was just a situation where guys are hungry to be able to win," head coach John Hynes said. "It took a complete team effort to do it."

The Penguins continue their road trip with a game Wednesday night in Worcester.
