The Merth Effect
Peter Merth is no stranger to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. In fact he played 11 regular season games in a WBS uniform back in the 2011-12 season. The Penguins posted a record of 9-2 in those games Merth played. Add that to the first win of the series with the Bruins in Game Four last night, and the Merth Effect has started up again.
Last night, Merth made his AHL playoff debut and was - for lack of a better word - effective, tallying an assist and a +2 rating. Merth got into the lineup after Cody Wild was injured in Game Three. It's safe to say the Penguins and their fans will hope the Merth Effect continues tonight in Game Five.
Expected Starters in Net
Penguins - Brad Thiessen (2-1, 1.37 GAA, .945 SV%, 0 SO)
Bruins - Niklas Svedberg (6-3, 3.1 GAA, .898 SV%, 0 SO)
Expected lineup:
Nesbitt - Smith - Kolarik
Collins - Gibbons - Thompson
Holzapfel - Peters - Payerl
Farnham - Sill - Megna
If Dylan Reese is ready to return, I'd expect he would be in the lineup for either Peter Merth or Reid McNeill. If not, the same six will play and look like this:
Dumoulin-Samuelsson
Mormina-Merth
McNeill-Grant
