Monday's Catch Up & Lunch Links 8/4

Monday, August 4, 2014
From Jayson Megna's rookie season, before he made his first NHL impression in the 2013-14 season.
There's not much going on in the hockey world in the first week of August, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been anything going on.

July has seen me travel to from NHL city to NHL city, observing and reporting on the development camps of the Florida Panthers and of course, the Pittsburgh Penguins. I'll have more from Panthers camp on Hockey's Future in the very near future. Stay tuned here at Highland Park Hockey for more summer features throughout the month on the guys likely pegged for AHL duty with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2014-15.

Expect a third summer feature sometime later this week. If you missed either of the first two, they're linked below along with some other Penguins related stories you might have missed.

  • Summer Feature Series:
Harrison Ruopp Fighting For AHL Role
Conor Sheary Aims to Make an Impression

  • Plenty more to come from the Penguins annual development camp that took place in mid-July, but here's some write ups on the final two practices and the camp-concluding scrimmage:
Penguins Development Camp - Day Two
Penguins Development Camp - Day Four
Penguins Development Camp Scrimmage Recap

  • I caught up with the fine folks at Pens Initiative for a story on a wide range of Penguins Development Camp topics.
  • Friend and colleague Ian Altenbaugh had this look at Dominik Uher/Adam Payerl and their quest to make a push for the NHL over on Hockey's Future.
  • Lastly, the AHL Penguins mascot "Tux" is in the 2014 Mascot of the Year finals. You can vote for him here
