Friday, October 2, 2015
Defenseman Adam Comrie is among five players re-assigned from the Phantoms to Reading (ECHL).
The Reading Royals, ECHL affiliate of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, announced their training camp roster this afternoon and on it are five players the Royals mention were re-assigned from the AHL club.

Forwards Geoff Walker, Cam Reid and Robert Czarnik and defensemen Adam Comrie and Sam Windle have been released from the Phantoms AHL camp roster and will report to Reading for ECHL camp, which begins Saturday. Of those sent down, only Walker and Comrie are on AHL contracts.

Here's a look at the Phantoms camp roster, which now features 16 forwards, 10 defensemen and four goaltenders - though Jason LaBarbera is currently with the Philadelphia Flyers until Michal Neuvirth is 100%.

Who do you have on the Philadelphia Flyers roster at present (Oct 2nd)?

The roster at flyers.nhl.com currently has 26 players listed (Mason, Neuvirth, LaBarbera; Del Zotto, Goudas, MacDonald, Manning, Medvedev, L. Schenn, Schultz, Streit; Bellemare, Couturier, Gagne, Giroux, Laughton, Lecavalier, McDonald, Raffl, Read, B. Schenn, Simmonds, Umberger, VandeVelde, Voracek, White).

But there is an article posted today at Philly.com which says the Flyers now only have to decide on one skater (the choice being whether to keep Manning or Laughton) ... so this piece implies that winger Colin McDonald was sent to the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Is that the case, has McDonald been sent to Lehigh Valley?

PS - I do appreciate the work you do in following developments with respect to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and that is why I am asking YOU what is going on with respect to Colin McDonald.

Here in Allentown, the professional media and Phantoms' own website always prefer to keep things a top secret and I find that rather disheartening. It is as if I am only supposed to blindly buy tickets but never concern myself with actual roster developments. But that's just not how I roll.

When I go to the opera, I want to have a good idea in advance of which fat ladies I can reasonably expect to hear sing.

LaBarbera and McDonald have cleared waivers and will be sent to Lehigh Valley by the start of the NHL season. Weird unknown rule that states even after clearing waivers you can remain on the NHL roster for up to 30 days, which is why Porter played the same night he cleared waivers.

So, yes. One more cut to be made and it will likely be Laughton or Manning unless a trade is made.

Thanks for the kind words, but I am also under that "professional media" category. I cover the Phantoms for The Home News - a weekly newspaper in the Lehigh Valley. I just supplement that since it's only in print once a week with daily coverage online here.

Thanks again and here's to a great season in Allentown,

Tony
