Free agency continues on today in Day 2 of the Free Agent Frenzy. This will serve as a rolling update throughout the day to monitor any moves/signings directly affecting the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms but also some of the smaller deals involving likely AHL-destined players.

While you're waiting for the frenzy to begin, here's some links to stories, etc to get you all caught up.
  • Who might the Flyers be targeting in free agency for depth purposes for Lehigh Valley? Last year, GM Ron Hextall proved he was serious in fielding a competitive AHL roster by signing goaltender Jason LaBarbera, defenseman Davis Drewiske and forwards Tim Brent, Chris Conner, Colin McDonald and Aaron Palushaj.

Day 2 Signings Around The AHL

The Tampa Bay Lightning have come to terms with RFA goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis on a one-year, two-way contract for the 2016-17 season.

The Toronto Marlies signed one of their own as the Maple Leafs signed defenseman Justin Holl to a one-year entry level contract following his impressive season with the Marlies last year - his first full year in the AHL. Holl was an impressive +32 in 60 AHL games in 2015-16.

The Washington Capitals were active on day one of free agency across the board, landing Hershey some premiere AHL talent in the form of goaltender Joe Cannata, defenseman Darren Dietz and forward Christian Thomas. It appears some more help is on the way to Hershey as the Capitals signed forward Brad Malone to a one-year, two-way contract. Depth is never a bad thing.

Yesterday the Ontario Reign re-signed their top in-house free agent Sean Backman to another AHL contract for 2016-17. Today they re-signed Paul Bissonnette to an AHL deal for next season.

The Rochester Americans have seen their NHL affiliate Buffalo re-sign some of their own free agents from last season such as forwards Cole Scheider and Phil Varone, but today they've added a new player in former Calgary/Stockton forward Derek Grant - a 2016 AHL All-Star that scored 27 goals in 36 AHL games this past season. Buffalo signed Grant to a one-year, two-way contract this afternoon.

The Rockford IceHogs have signed forwards Tyler Barnes and Jeremy Langlois to one-year AHL deals for the 2016-17 season. Barnes was a dominant player in the ECHL with Missouri last season (24G-37A in 69GP) and might be ready to make the jump to the AHL in 2016-17. Langlois wasn't qualified by San Jose despite an AHL career high 34 points (12G-22A in 68GP) in 2015-16.

The Montreal Canadiens added a two-way defenseman to their system, signing former Springfield Falcons and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins defenseman Philip Samuelsson to one-year, two-way contract for the 2016-17 season.

The Chicago Wolves are getting a serious crop of new players for the 2016-17 season as the St. Louis Blues announced nine minor league signings this afternoon:

Chris Butler - one year, two-way deal (ranked 31st among AHL-level defensemen)
Conner Bleackely - three-year entry-level deal
Jacob Doty - one year, two-way deal
Brad Hunt - one-year, two-way deal (ranked 7th among AHL-level defensemen)
Andrew Agozzino - one-year, two-way deal (unranked)
Wade Megan - one-year, two-way deal (unranked)
Morgan Ellis - one-year, two-way deal (ranked 3rd among AHL-level defensemen)
Alex Friesen - one-year, two-way deal (unranked)
Kenny Agostino - one-year, two-way deal (Ranked 2nd among AHL-level forwards)

The Winnipeg Jets signed defenseman Julian Melchiori to a two-year, two-way contract, and goaltender Jamie Phillips to a two-year entry level contract. Both are expected to play with the Mantioba Moose in 2016-17.

The Nashville Predators have signed Trevor Smith to a two-year, two-way deal worth AAV $612,500 at the NHL level. Smith captained the Toronto Marlies in 2014-15 and appeared in 54 NHL games with the Maple Leafs before heading overseas to Bern in the NLA last season. In his AHL career, Smith has tallied 346 points (153G-193A) in 453 games. If he doesn't make the Preds roster out of camp, Milwaukee gains a potential elite AHL player.
