The Lehigh Valley Phantoms held a nice event for season ticketholders at the PPL Center today, watching the opening day of training camp unfold on the ice, a Q & A session with the Phantoms' coaching staff and meet and greet autographs with the players.
The players were on the ice this morning for the first day of AHL training camp, taking part in shooting and passing drills, but the big news of the day came in the form of five players in the building that were watching the session from the tunnel to the locker room.
As reported here earlier this afternoon, defenseman T.J. Brennan and forwards Greg Carey, Chris Conner, Andy Miele and Petr Straka have cleared waivers and have been assigned to Lehigh Valley (AHL).
In case you missed it, watch forward Cole Bardreau talk about his return from abdominal surgery and when he expects to be back in the Phantoms' lineup on Highland Park Hockey's YouTube Channel.
Phantoms hockey is back at the PPL Center this season, and there's more than just the normal excitement that a new year brings. Moves like the ones the Philadelphia Flyers organization made over the summer make it clear - Ron Hextall and company wants their AHL affiliate developing their prospects in a winning atmosphere.
Plenty more coming from Phantoms training camp this weekend. I had a nice 1-on-1 chat with Phantoms head coach Scott Gordon as well as interviews with guys like Cole Bardreau, Corban Knight, Chris McCarthy and Reece Willcox among others.
For detailed insights on the players under contract, check them out in our Phantoms Training Camp Preview.

In Case You Missed It
- Defenseman T.J. Brennan and forwards Greg Carey, Chris Conner, Andy Miele and Petr Straka cleared waivers at noon Saturday and were assigned to Lehigh Valley (AHL).
- Miele sees an opportunity in the Flyers organization and feels that he's in a great situation this year.
- Among those still in camp with the Flyers is forward Taylor Leier (whose mindset is to make the Flyers this year) and defenseman Will O'Neill (who looks forward to being on the other side of the Pennsylvania hockey rivalry). They're getting an extended look from Ron Hextall and the Flyers.
- In case you missed it, I launched Highland Park Hockey's YouTube channel. Here are the first two video interviews I have posted so far this season:
