Penguins Trade Ferriero & Sneep

Thursday, January 24, 2013

The Pittsburgh Penguins were busy this morning, acquiring forward Chad Kolarik from the New York Rangers in exchange for Benn Ferriero. The Penguins also dealt defenseman Carl Sneep to the Dallas Stars for a conditional draft pick.

Here's the team's press release on the Ferriero/Kolarik deal.

Here's the release on Sneep's move to Texas.

Ferriero wasn't producing in Wilkes-Barre, and after being a healthy scratch he seemed like he was getting it together until a minor injury caused him to miss some more time.

The team's presser says Kolarik, 26, will report to the AHL Penguins.

Kolarik was in the midst of a fine season with the Rangers AHL affiliate Connecticut Whale, where he has posted 35 points (16G-19A) in 41 games. He's currently tied for 13th in the league in scoring and comes to the WBS Penguins as the team's leading scorer and will be going to the AHL All-Star festivities in Providence after the weekend.

Great pick up by the Penguins, grabbing that scoring threat they were looking for their AHL team in the offseason.

The move to let Sneep go was purely a numbers game and an attempt to ease up the logjam on the blue line in the Penguins organization. Sneep wasn't getting playing time in Wilkes-Barre and an opportunity elsewhere is best for him.
