Pens Grind Out Shootout Win

Saturday, March 2, 2013
The Penguins end the weekend on a good note, prevailing in six rounds of the shootout over the Albany Devils tonight.

Tom Kostopoulos found Trevor Smith open in the slot during a first period power play and Smith buried one past Maxime Clermont to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. The Devils would tie up late in the 2nd period to round out the scoring.

Overtime wasn't enough and the first five rounds of the shootout couldn't solve things, but Adam Payerl skated down the ice in round six and beat Clermont. Jeff Zatkoff preserved the win with a stop in the bottom half of the 6th round. Kostopolous and Jayson Megna also scored in the shootout for the Penguins.

The Penguins don't return home for another game at Mohegan Sun Arena for three weeks, but no worries. I will be making my first ever trip to Providence, Rhode Island, next Friday and will tour New England next weeekend as the Penguins play Providence, Portland and Manchester in consecutive nights.

There's no need to go anywhere for live coverage of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins while they are on the road. Highland Park Hockey will be there.
