Sharks Feast On Powerplay: Pens Fall 5-1

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

Tough game for the Penguins tonight as they fall 5-1 to the Worcester Sharks, allowing four power play goals in the loss. The two teams rematch Friday.

After a scoreless first period, the Sharks wasted no time in the middle frame. Marek Viedensky scored :16 into the period after a weird bounce off the back dasher while the Sharks were on a power play to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

Daniel Tarasov added to the Sharks lead with 3:47 left in 2nd period, smacking a rebound past an outstretched Jeff Zatkoff. The power play goal made it a 2-0 game in favor of Worcester.

The Penguins found life in the third period after the Sharks had made it 3-0. Warren Peters deflected a Joe Morrow point shot to end Harri Sateri's shutout bid halfway through the third period, but the Sharks continued to pour it on.

Bracken Kearns scored a pair of goals 1:58 apart to seal the deal on the Sharks 5-1 win.

Things got heated in the waning moments as Steve MacIntyre received four minutes for roughing and a ten minute misconduct. Worcester's Matt Pelech took offense to MacIntyre's physical play and also received a misconduct.

Maybe some of the hostility will carry over from that into Friday's game, but either way the Penguins need a much better effort Friday if they want to leave Worcester Friday night with any points.

ROSTER NOTES

Jeff Zatkoff got the start in net. Steve MacIntyre returned to the lineup after missing several games with an upper body injury. Cody Wild, Christian Minella and Chris Collins were healthy scratches.
