EDIT: Here's the press release from the Penguins. And one from Peoria as well.
Nesbitt, 30, was the leading goal scorer for the Rivermen this season, posting 26 goals and 21 assists in 66 game played. He most certainly gives the Penguins that secondary scoring they were searching for. Nesbitt also led the Rivermen with eight power play goals.
I spoke with current Penguins forward Cody Chupp and Peoria Rivermen beat writer for Peoria Journal Star, Dave Eminian about what Nesbitt brings to the table.
Dave Eminian on Nesbitt:
"Nesbitt has 26g, classic finisher. Deadly on PP. Very good at finding space in coverage. One of top shootout aces in AHL.Nesbitt comes up with lots dramatic goals, extra attacker final seconds OT type stuff. He has been on Peoria's No. 1 line for 3 seasons. A legit top 6 forward."I also spoke with Penguins/Nailers forward Cody Chupp about Nesbitt, being that they are both Ferris State alumni. Chupp had a lot of insights on what type of player Nesbitt is, and there is always a Penguins connection right? Here's what Chupp had to say:
"I watched him play while I was in high school. Same line and power play unit with Chris Kunitz. He [Nesbitt] may have the best one-timer I've ever seen. Natural scorer."More Chupp on Nesbitt:
"Spent summers working out and golfing with him. Great guy and should be a great locker room guy especially for the young players to look up to."Sounds like the Penguins organization is poised for a championship run at both the NHL and AHL levels.
As to where Nesbitt fits into the WBS lineup? If I had to take an educated guess I'd pencil him in on the 2nd line alongside Brian Gibbons and Paul Thompson. There's no need to break up the top line of Riley Holzapfel, Trevor Smith and Chad Kolarik in my opinion.
Projected WBS lines:
Holzpafel - Smith - Kolarik
Nesbitt - Gibbons - Thompson
Payerl - Peters - Collins
Farnham - Sill - Megna
