The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Adirondack Phantoms battled down to the final seconds of tonight's game, and a successful penalty kill by the Penguins in the final 1:28 of regulation proved to be the difference in a 3-2 win.

Jayson Megna and Brian Gibbons did not play tonight, but Harry Zolnierczyk did and was a difference maker for the Penguins, tallying a goal and an assist. Nick Drazenovic also tallied a goal and an assist, while Mike Carman's 3rd period goal proved to be the game winner.

This was the final regular season meeting between the Penguins and Phantoms in what could be the last time these two franchises play against each other. The Adirondack Phantoms are re-locating to Allentown and will play as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the 2014-15 season.

The Penguins conclude a three-in-three weekend with a 5:00 p.m. EST face-off at Giant Center tomorrow evening with the Hershey Bears.

The Penguins took a 1-0 lead after a flurry of pressure on Phantoms goaltender Cal Heeter. Harry Zolnierczyk was stopped on a breakaway, but the Penguins kept the puck in the zone and Drazenovic finished off the play with his 9th goal of the season.

Brandon Alderson brought the Phantoms back early in the 2nd period, finishing off a 2-on-1 play to tie the game at 1-1. From there, the Penguins outshot the Phantoms 16-6 in the middle period and spent most of the period in the offensive zone.

The Pens failed to score on three 2nd period power plays, but took a 2-1 lead on a wrap around goal from Harry Zolnierczyk with 6:20 left in the middle frame. Zolnierczyk's 15th of the season was assisted by Nick Drazenovic and Nick D'Agostino.

With Reid McNeill in the box to start the 3rd period, the WBS PK played a pivotal role in tonight's victory as well. In all, the Pens killed off four power plays in the final frame while maintaining their lead.

The Pens made it 3-1 halfway through the 3rd period in what seemed like an insurance goal at the time. Mike Carman had am extra step on a Phantoms defender who was late off the bench on a line change, and Carman finished off the breakaway with his 5th goal of the season.

The Phantoms didn't quit, responding a few minutes later to make it a one-goal game on a weird bounce off the stick of Jason Akeson, which popped up and over Deslauriers to make it a 3-2 game with 6:02 left in regulation.

Carter Rowney took a high sticking minor with 1:28 left and the Phantoms pulled Heeter for an extra attacker, but couldn't find the equalizer while 6-on-4. They drop a close game to a Penguins team that could very well turn into one of their biggest rivals next season when the teams will be about 45 minutes apart.

ROSTER NOTES

Jeff Deslauriers got the start in net, stopping 23 of 25 shots for his 17th win of the season.

Jayson Megna and Brian Gibbons did not play tonight after being re-assigned to the WBS Penguins earlier today. Harry Zolnierczyk was in the WBS lineup, however, taking the place of Spencer Machacek, who was not seen much after his goal in the third period of last night's game.

On defense, Nick D'Agostino returned to the WBS lineup in place of Harrison Ruopp.
