Pre-game Thoughts
- The first look at the goaltending battle between Jeff Zatkoff and Thomas Greiss in preseason action. Penguins coach Mike Johnston confirmed after the team's skate today that Greiss will play the entire game tonight. Jeff Zatkoff will get a game too per Penguins beat writer Seth Rorabaugh.
- On defense, bubble players like Philip Samuelsson, Brian Dumoulin and Scott Harrington get their first preseason game and perhaps leave a last impression before the roster is trimmed.
- Up front, we should get a good look at some guys looking to fill out the bottom half of the NHL roster. Guys like Craig Adams, Kasperi Kapanen, Adam Payerl, Zach Sill and Dominik Uher are all looking to make the team.
- The Penguins will see Sergei Bobrovsky in net at least to start for Columbus. Scott Hartnell is making his Blue Jackets debut, while Brian Gibbons will face a lot of his former teammates in the AHL with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for the first time since signing with Columbus this summer.
