The Pittsburgh Penguins went to work in narrowing down their NHL roster, trimming their training camp roster down to 37.

Of those, goaltenders Eric Hartzell and Matt Murray, defensemen Alex Boak,  Nick D'Agostino, Harrison Ruopp and Clark Seymour and forwards Josh Archibald, Jean-Sebastien Dea, Nick Drazenovic, Tom Kostopoulous, Tom Kuhnhackl, Matia Marcantuoni, Adam Payerl, Bryan Rust, Conor Sheary, Scott Wilson and Anton Zlobin were re-assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL).

They will report Wilkes-Barre for AHL training camp on Friday. The first on-ice practice is scheduled for Saturday.

The Penguins also re-assigned goaltender Tristan Jarry to the Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL).

Some surprises include Adam Payerl being sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Payerl was a darkhorse candidate to make the NHL club, but will start this season in the AHL.

Some surprises still on the roster include Bobby Farnham, Pierre-Luc Leblond, Reid McNeill and Taylor Chorney. That's not to say they won't be re-assigned at some point, but the fact they've all played in one preseason game and are still on the roster might mean the Pens want a second look at some of these guys.

The Updated Roster
