LIVE BLOG: Trade Deadline Day 2016

Might Mark Alt find himself with the Flyers as the trade deadline passes? Photo: Nina Weiss/The Home News
The Philadelphia Flyers have reassigned forward Nick Cousins to Lehigh Valley to make him eligible to be sent to the Phantoms and play in the AHL down the stretch and if the Phantoms make the playoffs, the postseason. It's more than likely he will be called back up and be in Philadelphia's lineup in their game tonight.
The day is here. The NHL's trading deadline approaches at 3 p.m. ET and teams will be looking to make moves, some of which will be geared toward winning now and adding depth for the playoffs while others will be looking to accumulate draft picks and prospects to build towards the future.

The Philadelphia Flyers are in an interesting quandary based on the fact that they are close to playoff contention while also in the middle of a rebuild. GM Ron Hextall has publicly said he is not looking to add at the deadline, but of course he will be working the phones today and listening to all possible trade offers.

So far, the only two moves the Flyers have made are by way of contract extensions. Saturday night, the Flyers announced a two-year, two-way contract extension for forward Colin McDonald. Yesterday afternoon, Michael Raffl received a three year extension that carries an average annual value of 2.35 million.

A lot of moves have already been made over the weekend, but that doesn't mean there won't be plenty of action around the league today. This live blog will certainly cover any moves the Flyers organization makes, but will also focus on smaller moves that directly affect the AHL, the Phantoms, and their common opponents.

Be sure to check back here throughout the day for all the latest news surrounding trade deadline day. I will have quick hits and insights on Twitter @TonyAndrock and have detailed reports of significant trade impacts around the AHL and Flyers/Phantoms.
