High-Prized AHL-Level Free Agents
Player, (former team) - 2015-16 AHL Stats

Top Forwards

1. Andy Miele (Grand Rapids) – 75GP, 18G-44A, +18, 77 PIM
EDIT: Signed one-year, one-way deal with Philadelphia (Lehigh Valley)

The 5-8, 175 pound forward has been a dominant, point-per-game player at the AHL level since 2011. In 2015-16, Miele led all AHL Western Conference players in scoring and finished 6th in the league’s scoring race.

2. Kenny Agostino (Stockton) - 65GP, 23G-34A, -3, 18 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with St. Louis (Chicago)

Arguably the biggest surprise of restricted free agency. Agostino and his 57 points in 65 AHL games was not enough for Calgary to retain his rights for the 2016-17 season. Perhaps Calgary will work out a deal with him before July 1st, but if not he will make an AHL team loads better upon his arrival.

3. Chris Mueller (San Diego) - 63GP, 20G-37A, -10, 50 PIM
EDIT: Signed one-year, two-way deal with Arizona (Tucson)

Mueller is an elite forward at the AHL level and has been the past five years. AHL fans across the league are hoping to see their NHL club sign him to a two-way deal.

4. Mike Sislo (Albany) - 57GP, 27G-26A, +16, 18 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Colorado (San Antonio)

Sislo is an elite AHL forward that has had three straight 20-goal seasons in the Devils organization. He has the ability to put a team over the top in 2016-17.

5. Pat Cannone (Chicago) – 73GP, 20G-32A, +5, 38 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Minnesota (Iowa)

Led the Wolves in scoring last season, was an AHL All-Star and had a career year in his 5th year of pro hockey.

6. Sean Backman (Ontario) - 68GP, 21G-34A, +7, 36 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Ontario

The undersized, but speedy veteran had a career-high 21 goals and 51 points last season. If he doesn't get an NHL contract for the 2016-17 season I'm sure there will be several AHL teams interested in his services.

7. Matthew Ford (BAK) – 64GP, 27G-24A, -3, 60 PIM
EDIT: Signed a two-year AHL contract with Grand Rapids

One of AHL’s top scorers that wasn’t on an NHL contract last season. Turns 32 in October and has been a career AHL’er, but is great option for a team looking to add a veteran scorer.

8. Matt Lorito (Albany) - 71GP, 18G-36A, +16, 26 PIM
EDIT: Signed a two-year, two-way deal with Detroit (Grand Rapids)

Lorito was one of the league's top rookies this past season and was on an AHL contract. He's almost sure to get an NHL deal for 2016-17 and whichever team lands him in free agency will have a talented young forward in their system.

9. Derek Grant (Stockton) 36GP, 27G-18A, +7, 36 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Buffalo (Rochester)

Grant tallied a career high 27 goals in the AHL last season in just 36 games. A 2016 AHL All-Star that could be a very dangerous player if he plays in the AHL in 2016-17.

10. Mark Zengerle (Grand Rapids) – 72GP, 9G-38A, +2, 34 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Lehigh Valley

In his 2nd pro season out of the University of Wisconsin, Zengerle improved upon a breakout rookie season that saw him put up 15G-22A. Only Andy Miele and Eric Tangradi put up more points than Zengerle did on the Griffins this past season. He might get an NHL contract this year.

11. Carter Camper (Hershey) - 64GP, 9G-25A, +3, 16 PIM
EDIT: Signed one year, two way contract with New Jersey (Albany)

Camper's offensive production dropped in the regular season compared to years past, but he really turned it up in the postseason and was a big reason Hershey advanced to the finals. His 17 points (6G-11A) in 21 playoff games was second in the AHL.

12. Eric O'Dell (Rochester) - 67GP, 25G-23A, -16, 49 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with HK Sochi in the KHL

25-goal scorers at the AHL level don't grow on trees. O'Dell will be a great addition to whichever AHL team lands his services in 2016-17.

13. Danny Kristo (Chicago) – 71GP, 25G-23A, -2, 29 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year, two-way contract St. Louis (Chicago)

Kristo has been a 20-goal scorer in each of his three AHL seasons and will be a welcomed addition to whichever AHL club lands him.

14. Andrew Miller (Bakersfield) – 55GP, 18G-27A, +6, 18 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina (Charlotte)

Following entry level deal and one-year extension, Miller only suited up for 15 NHL games in parts of two seasons in Edmonton. At AHL level, he’s been a point-per-game player.

15. Jeremy Morin (San Jose) - 59GP, 16G-26A, +7, 44 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay (Syracuse)

Morin was well-traveled in 2015-16, spending time with Rockford, Toronto and San Jose. At the AHL level, he's an elite player.

16. Jason Akeson (Binghamton) - 73GP, 13G-39A, -21, 18 PIM

After being sent to Binghamton at the trade deadline, Akeson caught fire with the BSens - finishing the year with 22 points (5G-17A) in 21 games.

17. Cole Schneider (Rochester) - 73GP, 21G-35A, -20, 53 PIM
EDIT: (Schneider re-signed a 1-year, two-way contract with Buffalo)

Three straight 20-goal, 50+ point AHL seasons makes him a valuable free agent in the AHL community.

18. Joe Whitney (Bridgeport) - 36GP, 14G-19A, +9, 29 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Colorado (San Antonio)

A broken leg cost Whitney his season, but when he's healthy he's an elite AHL player depite being severely undersized at 5-6, 170 pounds.

19. Ben Street (San Antonio) - 15GP, 7G-14A, +16, 4 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Detroit (Grand Rapids)

Injury limited Street to just 22 total games in 2015-16. When healthy, Street is an elite AHL player.

20. Colin Smith (Toronto) - 77GP, 20G-36A, +4, 37 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with the Toronto Marlies.

A trade from San Antonio to Toronto allowed him to play more games than a regular season team is scheduled for in 2015-16. Surprisingly wasn't retained by Toronto and the 20-goal scorer will look for a new home in 2016-17.

21. Brandon DeFazio (Providence) - 71GP, 22G-21A, +3, 38 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Texas

The physical, role player has put up back-to-back 20 goal seasons now in a complimentary scoring role. He'll have no trouble landing a new home in 2016-17.

22. Phil Varone (Binghamton) - 65GP, 19G-36A, -21, 28 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year, two-way contract with Ottawa (Binghamton)

Acquired by Ottawa at the trade deadline, Varone flourished with the BSens down the stretch - tallying 23 points (6G-17A) in 21 games in Binghamton to finish the season.

23. Gabriel Dumont (St. John's) - 71GP, 19G-30A, -14, 76 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay (Syracuse)

Back-to-back 45-point seasons have AHL fans intrigued on where he will play in 2016-17. Captained the IceCaps this past season.

24. Michael Chaput (Lake Erie) - 63GP, 16G-29A, +6, 31 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Vancouver (Utica)

Chaput is a great player at the AHL level and has seen some NHL time (58 games) in his first four years of pro hockey. He wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by Columbus, but will be a great addition to whichever AHL club lands him.

25. Greg Carey (Springfield) - 64GP, 26G-17A, -6, 20 PIM

EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Philadelphia (Lehigh Valley)

Carey had a breakout year with Springfield in 2015-16, leading his team with 26 goals. One of the few bright spots on an otherwise dull season for the Falcons last season.

26. Greg Rallo (Texas) - 57GP, 22G-22A, +18, 16 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Iserlohn Roosters in Germany (DEL)

Not only has Rallo had back-to-back 20-goal seasons, he's tallied 20 or more goals in five of his last six seasons. He turns 35 in August, but still has plenty left to offer an AHL team.

27. Jayson Megna (Hartford) - 68GP, 15G-29A, +7, 22 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, one-way deal with Vancouver (Utica)

A skilled forward with good skating ability and two-way play, Megna is working hard to get back into the NHL on a full-time basis in 2016-17.

28. Mike Blunden (Syracuse) - 49GP, 21G-17A, Even, 68 PIM
EDIT: Signed a two-year, two-way contract with Ottawa (Binghamton)

The physical forward had a knack for being hard around the net and topped 20 goals for the first time in his pro career.

29. Kael Mouillierat (W-B/Scranton) - 68GP, 18G-27A, -12, 89 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Lulea in Sweden (SHL)

Mouillierat is a top-six AHL forward that has four straight 40-point seasons at the AHL level.

30. Chad Nehring (Hartford) - 76GP, 22G-26A, +16, 42 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Ottawa (Binghamton)

Nehring had a breakout year in his 1st full year at the AHL level, leading Hartford in scoring. If he isn't able to land his first NHL contract this summer, there will be several interested AHL teams looking to acquire him for the 2016-17 season.

31. John McCarthy (San Jose) - 67GP, 16G-29A, +6, 22 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with San Jose

The Barracuda's alternate captain got back on track offensively in 2015-16 and brings a wealth of experience to the table.

32. Mike Halmo (Bridgeport) - 74GP, 22G-19A, -4, 117 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay (Syracuse)

Halmo had a career year this past season eclipsing the 20-goal plateau for the first time in his four-year pro career along with a career high 41 points in 2015-16.

33. Drew Shore (Stockton) - 59GP, 10G-28A, -17, 22 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Kloten in Switzerland (NLA)

Shore had a down year in 2015-16, but his team's overall lackluster performance may have had something to do with it. He should land on his feet and improve whichever AHL team he ends up on in 2016-17.

34. Derek Hulak (Texas) - 69GP, 17G-23A, +15, 16 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Utica

Back-to-back 40 point seasons to kick off his pro career should have AHL teams league-wide interested in his services.

35. Sean Collins (Hershey) - 75GP, 16G-23A, +4, 37 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Kunlun Red Star (KHL)

Collins was a solid complimentary player for the Bears this past season and can be a 40-point a season guy in the right situation.

36. Jim O'Brien (Albany) - 56GP, 19G-19A, +16, 48 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Colorado (San Antonio)

The skilled forward had another productive season at the AHL level, and will be a welcomed addition to whichever AHL team is lucky enough to add him to their roster in 2016-17.

37. Taylor Beck (San Antonio/Bridgeport) - 50GP, 17G-17A, +5, 32 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year deal with Edmonton (Bakersfield)

Beck was sent to Colorado at the trade deadline and finished the year in San Antonio before not getting a qualifying offer last week. He could be an attractive free agent for teams looking for depth at the forward position.

38. John Albert (Manitoba) - 66GP, 12G-24A, -10, 20 PIM
EDIT: Signed with Karpat in Finland's Liiga.

After back-to-back seasons with over 42 points in the AHL, Albert's offensive production took a bit of a plunge last season on a lackluster Moose team. He's still a reliable veteran forward that will make whichever AHL team he joins next better. He's two years removed from a 28-goal season and hoping to get back to that in 2016-17.

39. Austen Brassard (Manitoba) - 75GP, 15G-21A, -11, 48 PIM

In his second full season of AHL hockey, Brassard doubled his offensive production but it still wasn't enough for Winnipeg to retain his rights as an RFA Monday. It appears as though he'll be hitting the free agent market which is good news for teams looking to add some depth at the forward position.

40. Corban Knight (Portland) - 33GP, 4G-7A, -11, 8 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms

Judging by his AHL stats, you might be surprised he's this high up on the free agent rankings. He plays much better than his stats last year indicate and he also spent 20 games in the NHL with Florida in 2015-16 and on a similar scoring rate. Right situation will heed great AHL numbers in 2016-17.

41. Justin Shugg (Charlotte) – 59GP, 13G-22A, -1, 36 PIM
EDIT: Signed a contract with Dinamo Riga (KHL)

One year removed from a 20-goal season, Shugg was 6th on Charlotte in 2015-16 in scoring and is still a formidable AHL option for a team looking for complimentary scorers. He likes to shoot the puck (128 SOG in 2015-16).

42. Tim Schaller (Rochester) - 37GP, 12G-14A, -8, 48 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Boston (Providence)

A classic tweener player who can play in an NHL bottom-six, but does plenty of damage as a top-tier AHL player.

43. Reid Petryk (San Antonio) - 72GP, 15G-22A, -7, 34 PIM
EDIT: Signed a two-year, two-way deal with Colorado (San Antonio)

Petryk didn't disappoint in his first full season in the AHL, finishing 6th on San Antonio in scoring in 2015-16.

44. Trevor Parkes (San Jose) - 68GP, 18G-23A, +4, 73 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Ausburger Panthers in German DEL

Parkes' 5th season of pro hockey was his first full season at the AHL level, and he certainly made the most of it.

45. Cody Hodgson (Milwaukee) - 14GP, 4G-7A, +1, 0 PIM

The 10th overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, Hodgson has bounced around from Vancouver to Buffalo and last year with Nashville - racking up 328 NHL games of experience. This past season, he was sent to AHL Milwaukee and has subsequently been not tendered a qualifying offer. If he plays in the AHL in 2016-17, expect great things from him.

46. Antoine Laganiere (San Diego) - 57GP, 16G-16A, Even, 36 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with San Diego Gulls

Laganiere put up by far his best season as a pro in 2015-16 with career highs in goals, assists and points. If his strong season doesn't garner him an NHL contract in 2016-17, there will be plenty of AHL teams interested in signing him.

47. Zach Boychuk (Charlotte) – 72GP, 12G-18A, -30, 16 PIM
EDIT: Signed a professional tryout with the Arizona Coyotes

Two years removed from a 36-goal, 74-point season, Boychuk had a rough year in Charlotte before being loaned to Bakersfield last spring.

48. T.J. Hensick (Charlotte/Utica) – 65GP, 9G-31A,-18, 12 PIM
EDIT: Signed  an AHL deal with the Ontario Reign

The 9-year pro has loads of experience, but is coming off a below average season by his standards.

49. Zach Sill (Hershey) - 63GP, 9G-13A, +12, 49 PIM
(EDIT: Re-signed 2-year, 2-way deal with Washington)

Sill is a prototypical bottom-six forward that is a great defensive forward that excels on the penalty kill and in the face-off dot. He's a role player at the AHL level that all teams need, and he does that job very well.

Defensemen

1. T.J. Brennan (Toronto) - 69GP, 25G-43A, +34, 53 PIM
EDIT: Signed a two-year, two-way contract with Philadelphia (Lehigh Valley)

If Brennan doesn't hop the pond for an overseas payout, he'll be an elite AHL defender like he has been the past several years.

2. Will O'Neill (W-B/Scranton) - 74GP, 8G-42A, +2, 78 PIM
EDIT: Signed a two-year, two-way deal with Philadelphia (Lehigh Valley)

O'Neill is an elite offensive defenseman at the AHL level.

3. Morgan Ellis (St. John's) - 73GP, 16G-26A, +2, 51 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with St. Louis (Chicago)

Ellis had a breakout year in 2015-16, was a 2016 AHL All-Star and set career highs in goals, assists and points last season.

4. Cameron Gaunce (Portland) - 75GP, 2G-35A, +1, 60 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh (W-B/Scranton)

Gaunce had a breakout year with Portland in 2015-16, was a 2016 AHL All-Star and the backbone of the Pirates' defense last season.

5. Zach Redmond (San Antonio) - 11GP, 3G-4A, +6, 6 PIM
EDIT: Signed a two-year deal with Montreal (St. John's)

Spent most of the year in the NHL with Colorado (2G-4A in 37GP), but can be an elite AHL defensemen if a team is looking for depth on the blue line.

6. Taylor Fedun (Utica) - 63GP, 8G-25A, +3, 48 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Buffalo (Rochester)

Fedun has had three straight 30-point seasons in the AHL and is a mobile puck-mover.

7. Brad Hunt (Bakersfield) – 57GP, 13G-28A, +5, 18 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with St. Louis (Chicago)

A smallish blueliner at 5-9, but a team looking for a veteran offensive defenseman should look no further. A 2015-16 AHL All-Star defenseman.

8. Alex Grant (Springfield) - 69GP, 11G-31A, -34, 57 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Boston Bruins (Providence)

The plus/minus might scare you away, but this offensive defenseman has a booming shot from the point and can quarterback an AHL power play with ease. His poor plus/minus is more a reflection of his team's overall play in 2015-16.

9. Steve Oleksy (W-B/Scranton) - 63GP, 2G-17A, +8, 123 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh (W-B/Scranton)

A physical defensive defenseman, Oleksy had a career high offensive year with the Pens last season.

10. Stuart Percy (Toronto) - 58GP, 4G-20A, +3, 47 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh (W-B/Scranton)

It's not too often a team doesn't retain a 1st round pick in restricted free agency. Did Toronto give up on the 23-year-old too soon or was he simply not a fit in the Maple Leafs organization?

11. Philip Samuelsson (Springfield) - 56GP, 4G-27A, -8, 32 PIM

EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Montreal (St. John's)

Samuelsson had a career year on an underachieving Springfield team, and could be a great addition to an AHL blue line in 2016-17.

12. Matt Irwin (Providence) - 64GP, 5G-25A, +1, 27 PIM

EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Nashville (Milwaukee)

The veteran offensive defenseman has a chance to be an elite AHL player in 2016-17.

13. Marc-Andre Gragnani (Albany) - 57GP, 1G-30A, Even, 16 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Dinamo Minsk (KHL)

The veteran offensive defenseman had his 2nd straight 30-point season and although his NHL days might be behind him he's still a great player at the AHL level who also brings a wealth of experience to the blue line.

14. Andre Benoit (Chicago) – 72GP, 8G-25A, Even, 26 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Malmo Redhawks in the SHL

After two and a half seasons in the NHL, Benoit spent most of the 2015-16 season in the AHL. He still has plenty of experience (11 years pro) and offensive ability from the blue line.

15. Matt Donovan (Rochester) - 73GP, 8G-23A, -23, 61 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Frolunda in Sweden (SHL)

The plus/minus wasn't good in 2015-16, but Donovan put up points in bunches as a member of Rochester this past season and has NHL experience.

16. Michael Kostka (Binghamton) - 50GP, 5G-24A, +3, 20 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year, two-way contract with Ottawa (Binghamton)

While in the AHL, Kostka was a top-pairing defenseman playing in all situations for the BSens in 2015-16 and was the team's lone representative in the AHL All-Star Classic.

17. Michael Paliotta (Lake Erie) - 68GP, 8G-15A, +4, 29 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with New York Rangers (Hartford)

A former 2011-3rd round pick of Chicago, Paliotta put up decent numbers in his rookie season at the pro level following four years at the Univeristy of Vermont but wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by Columbus. At 23-years-old, a 6-3 offensive defenseman might draw attention in free agency.

18. Patrick Mullen (Milwaukee) - 65GP, 3G-27A, +1, 30 PIM
EDIT: Signed a contract with Dinamo Riga (KHL)

The offensively-minded defenseman began the year with Binghamton and finished in Milwaukee after a mid-season trade.

19. Tommy Cross (Providence) - 64GP, 3G-20A, +5, 97 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year, two-way contract with Boston (Providence)

A fine year for the captain of the PBruins in 2015-16. His experience will help out whichever AHL team he lands on in 2016-17.

20. Jeff Schultz (Ontario) - 66GP, 3G-15A, +17, 24 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Anaheim (San Diego)

The veteran defenseman has had an AHL role in the Kings organization the past three years, but his 409 NHL games of experience would be a welcomed addition to an AHL team in need of a veteran presence to stabilize prospects.

21. Peter Harrold (Chicago) – 70GP, 1G-23A, +6, 24 PIM

Another veteran defenseman who was on the Wolves last season. Turned 33 years old in June and had a good year in the AHL, but how much does he have left in the tank?

22. Erik Burgdoerfer (Hershey) - 74GP, 6G-14A, +10, 59 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Buffalo (Rochester)

Burgdoerfer proved to be a valuable part of the Bears' blueline last season, and could help out whichever AHL team lands his services in 2016-17.

23. Justin Holl (Toronto) - 60GP, 5G-16A, +32, 15 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year entry level contract with Toronto.

Holl exceeded expectations playing on a talented AHL team in his first full year at this level.

24. Chad Ruhwedel (Rochester) - 59GP, 10G-16A, -19, 26 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh (W-B/Scranton)

This puck-moving defenseman has a great shot and can play on the power play. All three of his pro seasons have seen him put up at least 26 points. Should put up more on a stronger team.

25. Jakub Nakadal (Stockton) - 35GP, 2G-12A, -3, 30 PIM

In his first season in North American pro hockey, Nakadal split the season between Stockton and Calgary. He might be heading back overseas before taking another NHL contract depending on his perceived chances of playing in the NHL.

26. Jerome Leduc (Binghamton) - 76GP, 11G-15A, -22, 34 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with HC Dynamo Pardubice in Czech Republic pro league

Leduc tallied a career high 11 goals in his fourth season of pro hockey split between Rochester and Binghamton in 2015-16.

27. Karl Stollery (San Jose) - 67GP, 6G-18A, Even, 65 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with New Jersey (Albany)

The 28-year-old defenseman is pretty consistent at the AHL level and is good for 25-30 points a year.

28. Brandon Burlon (Albany) - 56GP, 4G-17A, +1, 56 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Tucson RoadRunners (Arizona)

Burlon spent five years with the Devils organization and appears to be heading to free agency to find a new home.

29. Maxime Fortunus (Iowa) - 66GP, 6G-11A, -5, 18 PIM

After six years in the Dallas Stars organization, the veteran blue liner landed with the Iowa Wild where he performed well despite the team's overall lack of performance in the standings.

30. Chris Breen (Providence) - 66GP, 1G-11A, +9, 38 PIM
EDIT: Signed an AHL contract with Providence

The 6-7, 229 pound blue liner played a responsible two-way game and also chipped in with career high offensive numbers in 2015-16.

31. Chris Butler (Chicago) – 46GP, 4G-14A, -14, 39 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with St. Louis (Chicago)

His 8th season of pro hockey produced near career-high offensive totals, but a minus 14 rating. 387 NHL games of experience on his resume.

32. Bobby Sanguinetti (Rochester) - 40GP, 7G-8A, -5, 22 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with EHC Kloten (NLA)

A far cry from his 40-point AHL All-Star defenseman season from 2014-15, but he could have a bounce back year in 2016-17 and be an elite AHL defender again.

33. Adam Comrie (Lehigh Valley) - 32GP, 9G-6A, -3, 11 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Syracuse

Comrie's AHL numbers might seem a bit low for an offensive defenseman until you realize he spent the first half of the season stowed away in the ECHL. He scored a combined 24 goals in the 2015-16 season as a defenseman.

34. Jon Landry (Utica) - 47GP, 7G-19A, Even, 38 PIM

The veteran defender has been a career AHL'er.

35. Colby Robak (Rochester) - 73GP, 5G-15A, -17, 50 PIM

The veteran defender found himself on an AHL deal with Rochester this past season and he played well on an under-performing Americans team in 2015-16.

36. Kevin Czuczman (Bridgeport) - 74GP, 4G-11A, +1, 95 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Manitoba Moose

Czuzcman was one of Bridgeport's best defensemen this past season, and possibly more importantly has experience but doesn't fall under what the AHL terms as veteran players so he won't take up one of those spots on an AHL roster.

37. Kane Lafranchise (Bridgeport) - 33GP, 1G-14A, -1, 6 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Bridgeport

Lafranchise spent the second half of the year in the AHL and didn't look out of place at all with Bridgeport down the stretch.

38. Tyson Strachan (Iowa) - 67GP, 1G-12A, -15, 68 PIM

Strachan put up decent numbers on a not so good Iowa team last season. The 31-year-old has 186 NHL games under his belt and nine years of pro hockey experience.

39. Davis Drewiske (Lehigh Valley) - 73GP, 5G-9A, +1, 16 PIM

The veteran defensive defenseman kept Lehigh Valley from sinking this past season amidst a ton of injuries and a first year head coach at both levels in the organization. Drewiske also finished the season strong and logged major minutes on the penalty kill.

40. Shane O'Brien (San Diego) - 57GP, 1G-16A, -8, 81 PIM

At 32 years old, it appears his NHL days are behind him. That's good news for AHL teams that need depth on the blue line.

41. Nate Guenin (San Antonio) - 24GP, 2G-9A, -2, 14 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Anaheim (San Diego)

After two full years in the NHL with Colorado, Guenin split time between Colorado and San Antonio last season. Teams in the market for a veteran depth defenseman will inquire.

42. Justin Falk (Lake Erie) - 32GP, 2G-7A, +3, 43 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Buffalo (Rochester)

Falk won a Calder Cup with Lake Erie, but appears to be hitting the free agent market on July 1st. A classic tweener player who has been up and down between the NHL and AHL since the 2009-10 season, Falk has 171 NHL games of experience.

43. Steve Eminger (Lake Erie) - 19GP, 5G-9A, +14, 14 PIM

Eminger's NHL days have ended, but he is still a reliable veteran presence on the blue line in the AHL. He'll be turning 33 in October, but there appears to still be plenty left in the tank.

44. Gus Young (San Jose) - 68GP, 3G-16A, +8, 59 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Chicago Wolves

Young put up similar numbers in his 2nd pro season with the Sharks' AHL affiliate in 2015-16.

45. Ryan Stanton (Hershey) - 60GP, 4G-12A, +14, 69 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Colorado (San Antonio)

Stanton brings plenty of experience to an AHL blue line and is a two-way player that can be useful in most on-ice situations.

46. Derek Smith (Springfield) - 28GP, 2G-17A, -5, 10 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Medvescak Zagreb in the KHL

In his first season back in North America, Smith was hampered by injuries.

47. Scooter Vaughn (Chicago) – 68GP, 3G-11A, -1, 56 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Chicago

Vaughn has worked his way into pro hockey from the NCAA to two years in the ECHL to his third straight AHL season in 2015-16. A dependable third pairing AHL defenseman.

Goaltenders

1. Michael Leighton (Rockford): 46GP, 28-8-8, 2.44 GAA, .918 SV%, 5 SO

If the AHL's all-time shutouts leader wants to return for another AHL season, he'll have plenty of interested teams.

2. Yann Danis (Albany): 47GP, 28-12-5, 2.22 GAA, .908 SV%, 8 SO
EDIT: On a tryout at Anaheim Ducks training camp

On a strong defensive team like Albany, Danis thrived and had a career year with highs in wins (28) and shutouts (8).

3. Jeremy Smith (Providence): 20GP, 13-5-1, 2.02 GAA, .934 SV%, 1 SO
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Colorado (San Antonio)

Smith was loaned to Iowa (AHL) to start the year but was returned after Malcolm Subban broke his larynx and played well for the PBruins down the stretch. A solid AHL veteran goaltender that is capable of being a starter.

4. Justin Peters (Hershey): 37GP, 17-8-7, 3.04 GAA, .896 SV%, 1 SO
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Arizona (Tucson)

Peters' numbers in the regular season were average, but he stepped up when his team needed it most - pushing Hershey into the Calder Cup Finals this past season.

5. Joe Cannata (Utica): 40GP, 20-13-6, 2.52 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Washington (Hershey)

Split starts with Richard Bachman last season in Utica, and had better numbers. Should be an AHL starter somewhere in 2016-17.

6. Brad Thiessen (Lake Erie): 22GP, 12-4-4, 1.95 GAA, .929 SV%, 3 SO
EDIT: On a tryout at Columbus Blue Jackets training camp

Once a 35-game winner at the AHL level, Thiessen has been back and forth between the AHL and ECHL the past three years after a decision to head overseas. Still, his combined record last year stands at 22-8-8 with four shutouts and that is something that might be worth a look for an AHL team in need of depth in net.

7. Joni Ortio (Stockton): 20GP, 9-9-0, 3.36 GAA, .893 SV%, 0 SO

Ortio had a rough year with the Flames' AHL affiliate in Stockton, but fared better in 22 NHL games with Calgary this past season. Surprisingly wasn't tendered a qualifying offer earlier this week.

8. Dan Ellis (Hershey) - 43GP, 25-12-5, 2.38 GAA, .908 SV%, 4 SO
EDIT: Retired from pro hockey

One of the oldest goalies in the AHL last season, but formed a formidable duo with Justin Peters before losing the starting job down the stretch. An NHL team looking for a reliable #3 organizational goaltender to mentor a young goalie in the AHL will snatch him up in free agency.

9. Aaron Dell (San Jose): 40GP, 17-16-6, 2.42 GAA, .922 SV%, 4 SO

EDIT: Re-signed a re-signed a two-year, two-way contract with San Jose.

Besides the .500 record, Dell's numbers were every bit as good as top goalie free agent Michael Leighton's were in 2016-17. On a good defensive team, Dell can easily be a top-10 AHL goaltender in 2016-17.

10. Kevin Poulin (Stockton): 29GP, 14-11-3, 2.86 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO

Poulin is still a capable AHL goaltender who should have no problem finding work in 2016-17.

11. Casey DeSmith (W-B/Scranton): 6GP, 2-2-0, 1.94 GAA, .925 SV%, 0 SO

EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

DeSmith joined the Pens from the ECHL down the stretch and took them to the 7th game of the 2nd round of the postseason. Potential AHL backup job somewhere for him in 2016-17 if not back with the Pens.

12. Niklas Treutle (Springfield): 39GP, 12-19-5, 3.04 GAA, .905 SV%, 2 SO

Treutle wasn't retained by Arizona earlier this week and will head to free agency after an up and down first pro season in North America. Overseas hockey is a possibility for the German-born goaltender.

13. Tom McCollum (Grand Rapids): 30GP, 15-13-0, 2.42 GAA, .923 SV%, 1 SO

EDIT: Signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) with the Los Angeles Kings

McCollum spent all seven years of his pro hockey career with Grand Rapids, but Jared Correau – a qualified RFA – took over the AHL #1 spot with a 29-win season and it might be time for McCollum to move on from Detroit’s organization.

14. Jeff Malcolm (Hartford): 14GP, 7-5-0, 2.41 GAA, .912 SV%, 2 SO
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Hartford WolfPack

Malcolm has proven he's a more than capable AHL backup goaltender over the past two seasons.

15. Martin Ouellette (Lehigh Valley): 9GP, 5-3-0, 2.36 GAA, .933 SV%, 2 SO
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Lehigh Valley

Ouellette was primarily a backup AHL goaltender in 2015-16, but when he got a real chance to start some games late in the season he shined. He's hoping his next AHL deal will land him more time at this level.

16. Nathan Lieuwen (Rochester): 28GP, 14-11-2, 2.91 GAA, .909 SV%, 2 SO
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with San Antonio

The 6-5, 190 pound goalie performed ably on an underachieving Rochester team in 2015-16.

17. Rasmus Tirronen (Charlotte): 11GP, 6-2-1, 3.09 GAA, .888 SV%, 0 SO

Tironen split time between the AHL and ECHL in his first full season of pro hockey, but wasn’t tendered a qualifying offer by Carolina.

18. Jason LaBarbera (Lehigh Valley): 23GP, 7-14-0, 3.02 GAA, .899 SV%, 1 SO
EDIT: Retired from pro hockey to pursue goaltending coach duties with WHL's Calgary Hitmen

LaBarbera battled injuries throughout the entirety of the 2015-16 season but still had something left in the tank when he was healthy. Age & injury concerns becoming an issue for the 36-year-old veteran netminder.

19. Ben Scrivens (Bakersfield/St. John's): 10GP, 2-6-1, 3.47 GAA, .893 SV%, 1 SO
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with HC Dinamo Minsk in the KHL

Scrivens bounced from the Edmonton organization to Montreal, where he finished the year in the AHL. Could be a veteran depth goalie for an NHL club in need of a third goalie they can stow in the minors.

20. Alex Stalock (Toronto): 3GP, 1-2-0, 2.66 GAA, .907 SV%, 0 SO
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Minnesota (Iowa)

Veteran goaltender who is more than capable of being a #3 goalie in an NHL organization. Spent most of 2015-16 as a backup NHL goalie in San Jose.

Forwards

Luke Adam (Hartford) - 59GP, 12G-17A, -8, 30 PIM

A bit of a down year for Adam, but he's only two years removed from a 29-goal season in 59 AHL games.

Andrew Aggozino (San Antonio) - 41GP, 12G-17A, -13, 32 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with St. Louis (Chicago)

Aggozino got his first real taste of the NHL this past season. Has season point totals of 52, 49, and 64 in his previous full seasons at the AHL level.

Brandon Alderson (Lehigh Valley) - 18GP, 0G-1A, -6, 8 PIM

EDIT: Signed an ECHL contract with Greenville Swamp Rabbits Alderson showed promise in his rookie season with 14 goals, but he tallied a total of three AHL goals in the last two seasons that were primarily spent in the ECHL. He really fell out of favor with the Flyers management/staff last season.

Seth Ambroz (Lake Erie) - 3GP, 0G-0A, Even, 0 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with Cincinnati Cyclones

After four years at the University of Minnesota, Ambroz was primarily an ECHL player in 2015-16 with the Cincinnati Cyclones (4G-6A in 58GP).

Mike Angelidis (Syracuse) - 53GP, 7G-8A, -10, 75 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with the Stockton Heat

The Crunch's captain for the last four seasons is a heart and soul type center who plays sound defensive hockey and played a prominent role on the PK in 2015-16.

Olivier Archambault (Iowa) - 6GP, 0G-0A, -1, 2 PIM

EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with South Carolina Stingrays

In his second year with the Iowa Wild organization, the former 4th round pick in 2011 (Montreal) was relegated to ECHL duty with Quad City but averaged over a point-per-game in the ECHL with 52 points (22G-30A) in 50 games in 2015-16.

Darren Archiblad (Utica) - 51GP, 10G-9A, -2, 96 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Utica

Archibald plays a physical brand of hockey and has shown he can provide some offense too from time to time.

Bill Arnold (Stockton) - 52GP, 9G-13A, -12, 20 PIM

The former Boston College standout had a sophomore slump in his 2nd pro season in the Flames organization, but perhaps a change of scenery will provide a spark for him.

Vincent Arseneau (San Jose) - 5GP, 0G-0A, -3, 7 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with Wichita Thunder

Areseneau spent most of the 2015-16 season in the ECHL with Allen (40GP, 14G-13A, +1, 68 PIM).

Spencer Asuchak (Chicago) – 30GP, 3G-1A, -2, 29 PIM
EDIT: Signed a professional tryout contract with Toronto Marlies (AHL)

The 6-5 forward saw his largest AHL stint of his three-year pro career in 2015-16, but that was a season split between the AHL and ECHL. He was impressive in the Allen Americans ECHL Championship run with 13 points (6G-7A) in 23 ECHL playoff games this past Spring.

Matt Bailey (San Diego) - 51GP, 6G-13A, +14, 34 PIM

Bailey wasn't qualified by Anaheim and will be hitting free agency as his entry level contract expired following a breakout senior season at the University of Alaska-Anchorage where he was the team's captain.

Tyler Barnes (Bridgeport) - 2GP, 2G-0A, -1, 2 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL deal with Rockford for 2016-17.

Barnes was a dominant player in the ECHL last season (24G-37A in 69GP) and might be ready to make the jump to the AHL in 2016-17.

Colton Beck (Iowa) - 52GP, 8G-13A, -6, 12 PIM

Beck performed ably in his third year of pro hockey, his first real taste of consistent AHL action.

Matt Berry (San Diego) - 15GP, 3G-1A, Even, 4 PIM

The undersized, offensively-minded forward split last season between the AHL and ECHL where he was a point-per-game player with Utah (16G-21A in 38GP).

Alex Belzile (San Antonio) - 25GP, 6G-4A, +2, 10 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with San Antonio

His fourth pro season was split between the AHL and ECHL, his most AHL games played in a season in his pro career.

Tyler Biggs (W-B/Scranton) - 11GP, 1G-1A, +1, 11 PIM

Injuries derailed Biggs' season. The former 1st round pick of Toronto needs another change of scenery.

Paul Bissonnette (Ontario) - 35GP, 2G-1A, -2, 51 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Ontario Reign

Veteran tough guy and outspoken Bissonnette is expected to hit free agency on July 1st. Hockey is getting away from enforcers and physical play, but perhaps an AHL team might have room for a guy like Bissonnette.

Patrick Bordeleau (San Antonio) - 55GP, 0G-5A, -15, 72 PIM

EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Cardiff Devils (EIHL)

The physical veteran forward spent this past season entirely in the AHL.

Rob Bordson (Iowa) - 60GP, 9G-14A, -5, 17 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Fischtown in Germany

Bordson began with Providence before finding a permanent home with Iowa last season. The 28-year-old AHL veteran brings plenty of experience and could be a good depth option for AHL clubs seeking help in their bottom six.

Michael Bournival (St. John's) - 20GP, 1G-7A, -7, 12 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay (Syracuse)

Wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by Montreal earlier this week and hits free agency Friday.

Ryan Bourque (Hershey) - 75GP, 11G-18A, +1, 23 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Hershey

Bourque captained Hartford before being acquired by Hershey at the trade deadline. He plays a sound two-way game and plays with speed and tenacity despite his smaller stature.

David Broll (Syracuse) - 60GP, 2G-6A, -11, 112 PIM
EDIT: On a tryout at Montreal Canadiens training camp

One-dimensional enforcer wasn't tendered a qualifying offer and is a free agent.

Matt Carey (Iowa) - 21GP, 2G-2A, -6, 14 PIM

Trevor Cheek (San Antonio) - 34 GP, 4G-5A, Even, 21 PIM

EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with Fort Wayne Komets

Andrew Cherniwchan (Providence) - 55GP, 4G-4A, -11, 39 PIM

Jack Combs (Hartford) - 18GP, 2G-2A, +7, 2 PIM
EDIT: Signed a tryout with Fischtown (DEL)

The veteran forward has proven he can be a valuable depth addition to an AHL roster over the years.

Patrice Cormier (Manitoba) - 65GP, 15G-17A, -16, 73 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Manitoba Moose

Cormier has been a member of the Winnipeg Jets organization since they were in Atlanta, but after nearly matching an AHL-career high offensive season it appears he'll be hitting the free agent market on July 1st.

Christopher Crane (San Jose) - 9GP, 0G-2A, -1, 4 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with the Allen Americans

Crane was an ECHL player last year with Allen tallying an impressive 38 points in 41 games. Only 32 AHL games for Crane in the last three years, so no qualifying offer from the Sharks earlier this week.

Jerry D'Amigo (Rochester) - 59GP, 12G-12A, -8, 42 PIM

A proven AHL veteran, D'Amigo can be a great complimentary scorer on whichever team he lands on in 2016-17.

Derek DeBlois (Lake Erie) - 35GP, 3G-2A, -4, 23 PIM

Spent his second pro season split between the AHL and ECHL, where he had much better production offensively in the ECHL to the tune of 20 points (8G-12A) in 23 games.

Dan DeSalvo (Manitoba) - 17GP, 5G-9A, +3, 4 PIM

DeSalvo began his rookie year of pro hockey in the ECHL and after 51 points (16G-35A) in 55 games, he joined Manitoba and remained hot offensively. He's undersized standing at 5-8, but looked good in his short stint in the AHL last spring and could find himself in the AHL full-time somewhere in 2016-17.

Phil DeSimone (Lehigh Valley) - 28GP, 5G-8A, -4, 26 PIM
EDIT: On a tryout in Montreal Canadiens training camp (St. John's IceCaps?)

Arriving to the AHL mid-season after trouble overseas in Austria, DeSimone was a welcomed addition to a Phantoms team that needed depth down the middle due to injuries and call ups. DeSimone performed ably in his time in Lehigh Valley.

Jamie Devane (Milwaukee) - 65GP, 6G-5A, -7, 82 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Stockton

Acquired by Nashville from Toronto last July, it appears the 6-foot-5 forward is hitting the free agent market on July 1st after one year with the Predators' AHL affiliate in Milwaukee.

Daniel Doremus (San Jose) - 20GP, 1G-2A, -3, 8 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with Manchester

Injuries have hampered his career the past two years.

David Dziurzynski (Binghamton) - 43GP, 8G-12A, -4, 73 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Iserlohn (DEL)

Dziurzynski has spent his entire pro career in the Ottawa Senators organization, but after six years it looks like he will need to find a new home to continue his hockey career in 2016-17. The physical grinding type forward excels on the PK and fills a bottom-six role well.

Tanner Eberle (Iowa) - 5GP, 0G-0A, -1, 4 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with the Allen Americans

Eberle was primarily an ECHL player in 2015-16 with Quad City where he put up 18 points in 40 games.

Markus Eisenschmid (St. John's) - 28GP, 1G-4A, -1, 0 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with St. John's (AHL)

Eisenschmid made his pro debut in the AHL this past season with limited results.

Matt Ellis (Rochester) - 58GP, 6G-6A, -12, 6 PIM

An alternate captain last season, Ellis is a reliable depth forward at the AHL level that has plenty of experience and is only two years removed from NHL action.

Turner Elson (Stockton) - 63GP, 14G-16A, -12, 59 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Colorado (San Antonio)

An alternate captain in his third pro season, Elson was productive at the AHL level in the 2015-16 season.

Travis Ewanyk (Binghamton) - 66GP, 5G-4A, -6, 110 PIM

The chippy fourth line forward recently finished his third season of pro hockey and could be a depth option on an AHL deal for teams in 2016-17.

Eric Faille (Toronto) - 15GP, 7G-3A, +5, 2 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Toronto

Primarily and ECHL player in his 2nd pro year but put up 60 points (24G-36A) in 56 ECHL games in 2015-16.

Brett Findlay (Toronto) - 39GP, 6G-11A, +9, 6 PIM

Has split the past two seasons between the AHL and ECHL, with better offensive production in the ECHL.

Kyle Flanagan (Binghamton) - 44GP, 6G-14A, Even, 16 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Binghamton

In his return to North America after a one-year stint in Sweden, the undersized Flanagan chipped in a respectable 20 points in 44 games for the BSens on an AHL deal in 2015-16.

Rob Flick (Portland) - 60GP, 7G-14A, -10, 75 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with South Carolina Stingrays

Not quite as strong a season from Flick in 2015-16 after 19 goals with Providence in 2014-15, but he's proven he's a more than capable forward at the AHL level the past few years.

Justin Florek (Bridgeport) - 76GP, 7G-9A, -10, 31 PIM

Florek had a down year in 2015-16, but is still a capable AHL player that can fill a bottom-six role.

Dane Fox (Charlotte) – 2GP, 0G-1A, +1, 0 PIM

EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with Missouri Mavericks

His 2nd pro season, much like his first, was spent almost exclusively in the ECHL where he was a dominant player. 26G-24A in 53 ECHL games in 2015-16.

Matt Fraser (Rockford) - 65GP, 7G-14A, -6, 14 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Rogle BK in Sweden

Fraser moved from Manitoba to Rockford mid-season and put up similar numbers with the IceHogs down the stretch before not being tendered a qualifying offer and become a UFA.

Matt Frattin (Toronto) - 71GP, 13G-21A, +3, 51 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Stockton

Despite being traded to the Ottawa organization at the trade deadline, the Senators allowed Frattin to be loaned to the Marlies to finish the season in AHL Toronto anyway.

Nevins didn't do enough for Buffalo to retain his rights and keep him a part of their future plans.

Kris Newbury (Ontario) - 44GP, 10G-16A, +12, 79 PIM

Physical two-way forward Kris Newbury's offensive production is slowing after 13 seasons of pro hockey. If he has anything left in the tank, the 34-year-old might get an AHL deal over the summer.

Max Novak (Albany) - 43GP, 3G-11A, +2, 10 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Albany

In his first full season at the pro level, Novak learned the AHL game after four years at Union College.

Brett Olson (Portland) - 67GP, 13G-13A, +3, 20 PIM

A down year by his standards, but the alternate captain has proven to be a 40-point player the previous two years.

Aaron Palushaj (Lehigh Valley) - 57GP, 11G-17A, -18, 44 PIM

A hard-working player with speed and skill, it was a disappointing season for Palushaj in Lehigh Valley. He wasn't quite the point-per-game AHL player he was before he went overseas two years ago.

Philippe Paradis (Syracuse) - 49GP, 5G-6A, -4, 121 PIM

Injuries the past two seasons have limited him, but when healthy Paradis is a bruiser - physical and tenacious on the forecheck and an overall hard worker.

EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with Quad City

A separated shoulder in his 3rd AHL game ultimately ended his rookie season.

Ryan Penny (Binghamton) - 24GP, 2G-3A, -3, 8 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with Reading

In his rookie season of pro hockey after 4 years of junior hockey in the QMJHL, Penny split the 2015-16 season between the AHL and ECHL.

Joe Piskula (San Diego) - 43GP, 0G-5A, +1, 30 PIM

Last year's captain of the Gulls is a veteran defenseman that can mentor young talent on the blue line without a problem.

Peter Quenneville (Lake Erie) - 1GP, 0G-0A, Even, 0 PIM

Quenneville's rookie season was spent exclusively in the ECHL minus the one game with Lake Erie last season. 26 points (11G-15A) in 58 ECHL games with Cincinnati.

EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Vancouver (Utica)

Blair Riley (Stockton) - 45GP, 5G-5A, -9, 74 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with the Belfast Giants (EIHL)

The veteran forward will be turning 32 in November, but has plenty of experience to offer a team's prospects with 330 games of AHL experience.

Jay Rosehill (Lehigh Valley) - 23GP, 1G-2A, +1, 33 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Braehead Clan in Scotland (EIHL)

Rosehill refined his game in 2015-16, though he was limited in game action due to the AHL's veteran rule and often sat as a healthy scratch.

Garret Ross (Rockford) - 65GP, 7G-13A, -8, 109 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way deal with Arizona (Tucson)

After a 21-goal season in 2014-15, Ross followed it up with a disappointing 20-point season this past year which left Chicago with an easy decision to let him walk into free agency on July 1st.

Andrew Rowe (Bridgeport) - 11GP, 7G-1A, +1, 2 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Bridgeport Sound Tigers

After being captain of his ECHL team in Missouri, Rowe caught fire down the stretch in the AHL. He's the classic fringe player that is dominant at the ECHL level and bounced back and forth between leagues.

Marc-Olivier Roy (Bakersfield) – 42GP, 8G-12A, -1 18 PIM

In his first pro season, the Joliette, QC native handled himself ably.

Kenny Ryan (San Diego) - 41GP, 6G-4A, +3, 10 PIM

A far cry from his 29-point season last year with Lake Erie but Ryan only appeared in half as many games in 2015-16.

Scott Sabourin (Iowa) - 42GP, 4G-3A, +5, 90 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with San Diego Gulls

Sabourin's production has decreased across each of his three seasons at the pro level and after a move to Iowa mid-season didn't provide a productive response, the Wild cut him loose earlier this week by not qualifying him as one of their RFA's.

Jordan Samuels-Thomas (Ontario) - 58GP, 12G-10A, +12, 46 PIM

Samuels-Thomas nearly tripled his offensive output in his 2nd pro season. He could be an intriguing AHL depth option for teams in 2016-17.

Carter Sandlak (Charlotte) – 10GP, 0G-1A, +1, 4 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Grand Rapids

After his rookie season saw him compete a full year in the AHL, Sandlak spent 2015-16 mostly in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades (26GP, 5G-7A).

Charles Sarault (San Diego) - No AHL Stats
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Dornbirner EC (DEL)

Sarault was a dominant ECHL player in 2015-16 with Utah, putting up 62 points (19G-43A) in 67 games. It wasn't enough for Anaheim to bring him back on an NHL contract, however.

Michael Schumacher (San Antonio) - 57GP, 8G-3A, -13, 34 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Sodertalje SK in Sweden (SHL)
Schumacher's production dropped a little in his third pro season.

Eric Selleck (Springfield) - 60GP, 10G-12A, -9, 137 PIM

The physical forward does more than use his fists. He adds size and grit to the lineup, but can also produce offensively from time to time.

Tom Sestito (W-B/Scranton) - 41GP, 5G-9A, -3, 104 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh

The enforcer was useful in areas other than fighting in 2015-16 with the Penguins.

Ben Sexton (Providence) - 29GP, 4G-1A, -13, 45 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Albany Devils

Sophomore slump for Sexton, who didn't receive a qualifying offer from Boston and is hitting the free agent market on Friday.

Brendan Shinnimin (Springfield) - 30GP, 5G-9A, -13, 36 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Langnau in Switzerland

Shinnimin had a down year, but is one year removed from a 22-goal season in the AHL.

Wayne Simpson (Portland) - 68GP, 8G-28A, +20, 6 PIM

In his third pro season, and his first full year at the AHL level, Simpson exceeded expectations and will be looking for his first NHL contract this summer. If not, he'll be a welcomed addition to an AHL roster in 2016-17.

Ben Smith (Toronto) - 19GP, 12G-4A, +2, 4 PIM

EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Colorado Avalanche

Has the chance to be a top-tier AHL player in 2016-17 if he doesn't make an NHL roster.

Dalton Smith (Lehigh Valley) - 28GP, 2G-0A, -3, 49 PIM

The physical bottom-six forward split his season between Providence and Lehigh Valley this past season. Only two years removed from an 11-goal season, a career high.

Brett Sutter (Ontario) - 74GP, 9G-12A, -11, 62 PIM

EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Ontario

Sutter joined Ontario from Iowa down the stretch and provided a veteran presence to the forward core in the Kings system. Teams looking for AHL depth down the middle should inquire.

Jordan Szwarz (Springfield) - 56GP, 12G-11A, -2, 31 PIM

Szwarz had a career-high 12 goals last season as an alternate captain on an under-performing Springfield team.

Nick Tarnasky (Hartford) - 59GP, 15G-5A, +5, 77 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with San Diego Gulls (AHL)

His NHL days are behind him now, but the 32 year old grinder is still a very capable player at the AHL level and was one goal shy of a career high in 2015-16 with Hartford in 15 less games.

After a full season with Binghamton in 2014-15, Thompson split 2015-16 between the AHL and ECHL in his 2nd pro season.

Scott Timmins (San Jose) - 45GP, 4G-7A, -6, 14 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Straubing Tigers (DEL)

Timmins' AHL production has dipped over the past four seasons, but he's an experienced player that could be a depth addition to a roster.

Evan Trupp (Chicago) – 59GP, 7G-15A, +1, 17 PIM

The undersized forward followed up a 40-point season with a similar scoring rate in 2015-16, and could be a solid option for AHL depth this fall.

Tony Turgeon (Portland) - 35GP, 0G-1A, -4, 73 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with the Manchester Monarchs

The physical forward has yet to get a full year in the AHL through three years of pro hockey.

In his second season with the Rockford organization, Walters continued to be a fringe AHL/ECHL player like he was in 2014-15.

Jeremy Welsh (Chicago) – 74GP, 15G-13A, -11, 54 PIM

Welsh’s production took a bit of a plunge this past season as compared to 2014-15, but he was a 20-goal scorer two years ago. There might still be something there that can help an AHL team.

Ethan Werek (Charlotte) – 40GP, 9G-7A, +6, 24 PIM

In his 5th pro season, but his first year split between AHL & ECHL.

His first pro season outside of Albany resulted in career highs in games played, goals and assists.

James Wright (Bridgeport) - 73GP, 14G-27A, -14, 53 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract Admiral Vladivostok (KHL)

Andrew Yogan (St. John's) - 35GP, 4G-7A, -5, 18 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with HC Bolzano (EBEL)

Yogan was well traveled in 2015-16 spending time on three different AHL teams (Iowa, Syracuse and St. John's).

Mac Bennett (St. John's) - 35GP, 1G-2A, -11, 30 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Rochester

Bennett was a depth defender at the AHL level last season and did not receive a qualifying offer from Montreal.

Barry Goers (W-B/Scranton) - 16GP, 0G-2A, -2, 4 PIM
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Spiro Goulakos (Rochester) - 10GP, 1G-1A, +2, 4 PIM
EDIT: At New York Rangers training camp

In his rookie pro season, Goulakos was primarily an ECHL defender with Elmira (54GP, 7G-24A) following four years at Colgate University where he served as team captain his junior and senior years.

Raman Hrabarenka (Albany) - 47GP, 5G-4A, -9, 42 PIM
EDIT: Signed a tryout with the Toronto Maple Leafs

The 6-4, 229 pound defender's production continued to dip in 2015-16 and it came as no surprise that he wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by New Jersey earlier this week.

Sam Jardine (Rockford) - 6GP, 0G-0A, -1, 7 PIM

The five year pro has been mainly an ECHL defensemen throughout his career.

Nick Mattson (Rockford) - 17GP, 1G-6A, +4, 0 PIM

Mattson spent his rookie season primarily in the ECHL following a four-year career at the University of North Dakota.

Corbin McPherson (Albany) - 64GP, 2G-6A, +1, 38 PIM

McPherson's play has been steady and been relatively the same the past four years in Albany.

Mike Moore (Hershey) - 48GP, 5G-5A, +1, 59 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with Fischtown in the DEL (Germany)

The AHL's veteran rule limited Moore to 48 regular season games and no playoff action this past year, but a team with a young blue line could certainly use a guy like Moore to stabilize things on the back end.

Joey Mormina (Rochester) - 50GP, 0G_6A, -2, 60 PIM

A veteran AHL defender with good size, Mormina plays a stay-at-home physical defensive style and can be a depth defender at the AHL level in 2016-17.

John Negrin (Utica) - 58GP, 1G-10A, -7, 22 PIM

Michael Sdao (Rochester) - 29GP, 0G-6A, -4, 53 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with Colorado Eagles

Acquired from Binghamton at the trade deadline, Sdao is a big physical defender that plays stay at home defense and uses his size and aggressiveness to his advantage.

Clark Seymour (W-B/Scranton) - 17GP, 3G-3A, -1, 17 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year contract with HC Bolzano in Belgium (EBEL)

Seymour was much-improved in 2015-16 and should find AHL work in 2016-17.

EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Bakersfield

A 6th/7th defenseman in 2015-16, Simonelli's 2nd season of pro hockey was his first spent fully at the AHL level. He could be a full-time AHL defender again in 2016-17 on a similar AHL deal.

Yann Sauve (Stockton) - 7GP, 0G-1A, -6, 2 PIM

Sauve was primarily an ECHL player in 2015-16, tallying 29 points (7G-22A) in 52 games with the Manchester Monarchs.

Brennan Serville (Manitoba) - 15GP, 0G-0A, -6, 10 PIM

Serville's rookie season saw him split between Manitoba and Tulsa (ECHL). The former University of Michigan product and 2011-3rd round pick of Winnipeg's was never a point-producer but rather a big bodied defender.

Dustin Stevenson (Stockton) - 45GP, 2G-6A, -3, 104 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year, two-way contract with Dallas (Texas)

Stevenson was an alternate captain for Stockton last season and plays a physical, hard-nosed brand of hockey that AHL teams might be looking for on their third pairing.

Peter Stoykewych (Manitoba) - 47GP, 0G-7A, -6, 38 PIM
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with Manitoba  The 6-foot-3 Colorado College product didn't look too out of place as a rookie in AHL action in 2015-16.

EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with Fort Wayne

The former 2007-2nd round pick spent almost all of last season in the ECHL with Fort Wayne (64GP, 3G-8A).

Goaltenders

Mark Dekanich (Hershey): 1GP, 0-1-0, 4.09 GAA, .818 SV%, 0 SO

EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms

The veteran netminder was an ECHL goaltender in 2015-16 and while he dominated in South Carolina (20-9-4 record), he's still a ways off from when he was a 25-game winner at the AHL level. That ship might have sailed, but he could prove the doubters wrong with a bounce back year in 2016-17.

Ryan Faragher (San Diego): 5GP. 2-3-0, 3.71 GAA, .891 SV%, 0 SO

Faragher was mainly an ECHL goaltender in 2015-16, going 24-13-4 with three shutouts in 41 ECHL games with Utah. Could be a good pickup for an AHL backup or 3rd goalie.

Matt Ginn (Providence): 1GP, 0-1-0, 2.01 GAA, .905 SV%, 0 SO
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Providence

Ginn was the starting goalie for the ECHL's Atlanta Gladiators in 2015-16 (17-16-3, 2.87 GAA, .903 SV%, 2 SO).

Scott Greenham (Binghamton): 6GP, 3-1-0, 2.19 GAA, .928 SV%, 1 SO
EDIT: Re-signed a one-year AHL contract with Binghamton

After 15 wins with the BSens in 2014-15, Greenham was mainly an ECHL goalie this past season due to the arrival of Matt O'Connor. Greenham could be an AHL backup or a solid #3 option elsewhere.

Michael Houser (Ontario): 6GP, 1-4-0, 2.43 GAA, .903 SV%, 0 SO
EDIT: At Columbus Blue Jackets training camp

Houser was delegated to mainly ECHL duty in 2015-16 with great results, going 10-4-2 with Manchester last year.

Brody Hoffman (Iowa) - No AHL Stats

Hoffman wasn't tendered a qualifying offer by the Minnesota Wild after playing 40 games in the ECHL as Quad City's starting goaltender where he went 19-17-1 with a 2.78 GAA and .911 SV%.

Leland Irving (Iowa): 41GP, 12-22-6, 2.68 GAA, .913 SV%, 2 SO

After two years overseas, the former 1st round pick of Calgary in 2006 returned to North America on an AHL deal with Iowa. His record is more indicative of the team he was on than performance, but he could be a serviceable AHL goaltender for a team in need.

Connor Knapp (Lehigh Valley): 2GP, 1-0-0, 5.31 GAA, .821 SV%, 0 SO
EDIT: Signed a one-year ECHL contract with the Norfolk Admirals

Knapp was an ECHL goaltender in 2015-16 that split time with Martin Ouellette when the latter wasn't in the AHL with Lehigh Valley.

Olkinuora was primarily an ECHL goaltender last season, going 14-9-2 with Tulsa in 2015-16.

Ty Rimmer (Bakersfield): 6GP, 2-2-1, 3.89 GAA, .880 SV%, 0 SO

In his 4th year at the pro level, six AHL games were a career high in 2015-16.

Kent Simpson (Stockton): 11GP, 3-4-0, 4.09 GAA, .861 SV%, 0 SO
EDIT: Signed a one-year AHL contract with San Antonio

Simpson split the 2015-16 season between the AHL and ECHL and had far better numbers in the ECHL with Adirondack (7-4-2, 2.38 GAA, .926%, 3 SO).
