HIGHLAND PARK HOCKEY HQ - The Lehigh Valley Phantoms haven't fared well against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers so far this season, and the trend continued in a win streak-breaking 5-2 loss Saturday night at the Webster Bank Arena.
For the third straight time against the Phantoms, the Sound Tigers put five goals on the scoreboard and improved to 3-0 against Lehigh Valley in the season series, a series which they have out-scored the Phantoms 15-8.
The Phantoms (10-4-1) see their eight-game win streak snapped at eight games - their highest streak in over a decade as AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers - but are 10-1-1 this season against teams not named Bridgeport. Luckily for Lehigh Valley, the Phantoms only face the Sound Tigers three more times the rest of the season.
Lehigh Valley is back in action on Thanksgiving Eve, finishing their stretch of 10 road games in 13 contests in Binghamton against the Senators. They also host the BSens next Friday.

Similiar to last night's game in Providence, the Phantoms had to kill off an early period penalty against Bridgeport 2:31 into the contest. Unlike Friday night's game, the Phantoms killed not only killed off the penalty but drew a power play of their own and took the 1-0 lead.
With the Phantoms' second unit on the ice, Travis Sanheim got a puck down low to Danick Martel. Martel took the puck behind the net and fed it into the slot to Max Lamarche, who fired a wrist shot off the post and in past Perkasie, Pa native Eamon McAdam to give Lehigh Valley the lead 8:53 into the contest. The goal was Lamarche's second in as many nights.
Bridgeport got to their game later in the period, getting pucks to the net and playing a blue-collar style of play. They got back on the man advantage with 5:50 left in the opening period, and tied the game up at 1-1 with a power play goal of their own.
Josh Ho-Sang got a puck to Devin Toews at the blue line, and Toews point shot was blocked down partially by Michael Dal Colle. Dal Colle put the puck past Lyon to even the score heading into the 2nd period.
The Phantoms had a glorious chance to take the lead back in the second period, getting a brief two-man power play. Instead, the Sound Tigers killed off the 5-on-3 and Steve Bernier scored on a shorthanded breakaway to give the Sound Tigers a 2-1 lead.
The Phantoms had chances at the tail end of the power play midway through the period, but were unable to cash in. Later in the period, after a Scott Laughton turnover behind the net, Bridgeport extended their lead to 3-1. Laughton tried to bank the puck off the boards behind the net and it went straight to Bracken Kearns, who quickly got the puck out in front and Joshua Winquist finished it off past Lyon.
Things got chippy in the second period, and things boiled over into the game's first fight as Sam Morin and Ross Johnston dropped the gloves with 4:45 left before the second intermission.
The Phantoms had a late period power play go by the wayside, and for the second straight night they trailed 3-1 heading into the third period.
Lehigh Valley's power play unit redeemed themselves early in the third period, cashing in on Kyle Burrough's roughing minor 1:57 into the stanza. T.J. Brennan picked up a Zengerle pass off the boards and ripped a slapshot past everyone. Brennan's fifth of the season made it a one-goal game.
From there, the Sound Tigers really clogged things up defensively and tried to lock it down. The Phantoms had a few chances but just six shots in the first 15 minutes of a 3rd period that began with the Phantoms trailing 3-1.
Still, a one goal game isn't something that the Phantoms should be ruled out of. Not after last night's rally in Providence in a similar 3-1 game.
Tonight, the Phantoms just couldn't find an equalizer. Instead, Kane Lafranchise sprung Ho-Sng on a breakaway and the former 1st round pick finished it - giving the Sound Tigers a two-goal lead they never looked back on.
Bridgeport added an empty net goal 1:06 later to complete the 5-2 final score, ending the Phantoms' win streak at eight games.

Why the hell we don"t let Tyler Coulbourne play in the left wing position in our ford-line, because we need badly more character to our teams play!
