The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (11-4-1) got back to their winning ways in Binghamton before the Thanksgiving holiday, leaning heavily on Alex Lyon in a 1-0 shutout win over the Senators Wednesday night.
The two teams entered the third period scoreless thanks to a goaltender's duel between Lyon and Andrew Hammond, but Phantoms' team captain Colin McDonald broke the scoreless tie with 10:39 left in the final frame to lift Lehigh Valley to the win.
McDonald was stopped on his initial shot, but fought through to get to his own rebound to give the Phantoms the game's first and deciding goal. Taylor Leier and Corban Knight recorded assists on what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
The real story coming out of tonight is that rookie goaltender Alex Lyon is settling in and getting into a groove. He has now won five of his last six starts, with tonight's win being his first career professional shutout (28 saves).
The Phantoms are back in action Friday night at home against Binghamton.
